Reason why voters need to consider potential Supreme Court appointees...

But see, once the law starts interfering with what may happen do we have a problem.

Besides its legal status. Do you see nothing wrong, with two or three people, who have no kids, nor will be driving; do you see a problem with them shooting heroin, or any other kind of drug.

In the privacy of their own home, with the proper safety taken.

The problem. gooch, is that the effects of the drugs cause a person to go out and rob a store or drive under the influence and kill someone. They don't just shoot up and call it a night.

I went off on a tangent that didn't help my case. What I am trying to say is that there will always be abortions. Unless the government plans on putting a monitor in every uterus, there is no way find out when every woman gets pregnant. If you criminalize abortion, then you run the risk of bringing back the age of the coat hanger, which is something no one wants.

LBBC, what is your opinion on the morning after pill, and other forms of emergency contraceptives? Accidents to happen...

I don't know enough about them and would have to study up before forming an opinion.

Justices are not supposed to think about what thinking society supports at any given time.

Was I wrong in how Tobin characterized many of O'Conner's positions? That she looks to align herself with public sentiment instead of what the law says.

The argument for the legalization of drugs has a more legitimate argument- you could say we should legalize drugs so there are less OD's from drug dealers lining their drugs with harmful chemicals.

Except there is a difference- Pro-Lifers don't want to control a woman's body. They want to protect the life of an innocent child. No one wants the coat hanger, but I'd rather a woman break the law and harm herself then to see all of these babies being murdered. You have to understand that Pro-Lifers view the unborn baby as life. It is not a control issue, it is a protection issue.

And, I'm sure you don't care, but I am against the morning-after abortion pill and other emergency contraceptives. If you meant to say "Accidents do happen", they don't happen if you take precaution. Like not having sex before your ready to have a child.

Your position that "Accidents do happen" is similar to this- Someone who plays Russian Roulette is not stupid because "Accidents Do Happen". Playing with a revolver, pointing the muzzle towards yourself and pulling the trigger is high-risk behavior and consequences (death) come from it- just like having sex has consequences (new life). Just because you didn't want the consequence (similar to how the Russian roulette player doesn't want to die) doesn't mean that you are excused from dealing from the consequences.

Russian Roulette, and Condoms, and other forms of contraceptive failing are apples and organges!

Then we arrest them and prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law. The law cant be used as a preventitve, but only as a consequence. Legalize drugs, but let everyone know that no mercy will be taken if they hurt or kill someone under the influence.

You have trust people to make decisions for themselves; instead we want to hadn them a list of approved decisions.

Justices aren't. However, the POTUS who appoints them surely does.

I believe that most people who are against abortion (as I am) are against it on moral grounds. However, I do NOT believe that the majority of those will support a murder-like charge against the female. They will NOT equate that act to the act of shooting/stabbing someone. Therefore, they will not elect a President who is prone to put judges on the SC who would.

I know many people hold the abortion issue near and dear to their heart. I agree that it is an important issue, but, IMO, too much of the Supreme Court's time is spent on this single issue. Potentially causing neglect in areas of our laws that need attention. Sometimes I think both sides polarize the issue to distract everyone away from the garbage they don't want you to notice. There are areas in our judicial system that need attention. That said.

IMO, the single greatest lasting inprint that a president can do for ... or to (depending on your opinion) our country is appoint justices.

Russian Roulette, and Condoms, and other forms of contraceptive failing are apples and organges!

It was an exaggerated metaphor to show a point on actions & consequences. Could you address the rest of my post?

There is not much I can address in the aforementioned post. I will concede that a fetus is a lifeforms, but it is not on the same level as a human being post birth. I would be willing to limit abortions to the first trimester, so that a compromise on this subject could be reached. I would even be willing to set a one abortion per limit woman.

cch, what are your opinions on things like the morning after pill? Should they be outlawed as well. Because we all know that we can take all the preventitive measures and still fall victim to accidental antibiotics while on birth control, or failed latex.

Or you could just not have sex unless you were willing to face the reality of a child.

IMVHO when you willingly engage in sex you have accepted that a pregnancy may occur. If you are willing to take that chance then again IMVHO you should be willing to accept the consequences of that action.

It's called personal responsibility.

I dont see why a married couple with two kids already, should be forced to keep another one completely due to a broken prophylactic.

No one has ever given me their stance on things such as the morning after pill, and other forms of emergency birth control...

Vasectomy and/or tubal ligation.

If one is willing to undergo a surgical procedure to termininate an unwanted pregnancy why not have one to prevent an unwanted pregnancy?

I cannot answer that question..I still firmly stand for a Woman's right to choose..

Care to tell me what your stance on emergency contraceptive is?

Can't or won't.

Why does it matter so much to you?

Just off the top of my head I would say that it is a way to avoid responsibility for irresponsible behavior.

And yes, I think sex without being 100% willing to accept all of the responsibilities that go along with it (including unwanted pregnancy) is irresponsible behavior.

Because if people want to criminalize abortion, why not criminalize all forms of contraceptive. Because with any contraceptive you are preventing a life from forming, and growing.
