How much sympathy would I receive from any other nation's citizens if I entered their country illegally?

So there is no one like me in another country? If you were in the same position as some of these people are, if you worked your body relentlessly to put the very basics of food - milk and bread - on the table for your family, if your children had little chance of a true education and to break the cycle of poverty, and you chose to go somewhere to improve your life, there would be people that might sympathize with your plight.

The issue is not over the meaning of the word. It's about Obama playing it up to the Hispanic community by saying that a government agency is bad because they do their job. The border patrol had similar issues for doing their jobs, with the exception that some of them went to jail for doing their jobs.

As I said, we all know why he used the words he did.

 

According to the original post, that is the purpose of this thread.

It was about the purposely misuse of the word, not the meaning. As I said, we all know why he used it as well as the rest of his rhetoric.

Reading through these, I have to agree with this assessment:

 

Julie Myers, the Department of Homeland Security's assistant secretary for ICE, says federal law, Supreme Court decisions and search warrants give ICE the authority to enter workplaces to question "all the people inside," including citizens. But she says ICE agents work fast to separate legal workers from suspected illegal ones.

 

"When we go in, a lot of people are pretending to be U.S. citizens, and then there are some people who are," she says. "Our goal is to make sure we work as quickly and efficiently as we can so that U.S. citizens and legal permanent residents are free to go."

 

No system is perfect, but Obama acts as though these are fascist thugs and his use of the word "terrorizing" was irresponsible.

 

 

I guess that this is perception and in the "eye of the beholder" or thusly, the one terrorized.

Which makes him no different then McCain and his speech to the NAACP.

It depends on how they do their job. A teacher that ridicules a kid in class that is uncomfortable speaking may be doing their job, but I would condemn them for their method. A police officer that kicks a suspect in the ribs while he is on the ground may be doing their job, but I would condemn them for their method. It appears that some people doing their job as a member of ICE may need condemnation for their methods.

I doubt they'd get kicked in the ribs unless they were resisting, then in that case, they're doing their job.

There might be a few people like you but not a whole portion of society that is willing to overlook your flaunting of their laws.

If I entered another country illegally, I doubt that I'd even be able to find a job, let alone have anyone sympathize with my plight. I know of people who have gone to Europe LEGALLY, and can't find jobs because they're not a member of the EU.

If I entered another country illegally, I doubt that I'd even be able to find a job, let alone have anyone sympathize with my plight. I know of people who have gone to Europe LEGALLY, and can't find jobs because they're not a member of the EU.

 

As I was born here, I assume so. The only members of my family to leave the country in the past one hundred years or so have been my great uncles when they went to Europe and the Pacific in WWII and my dad when he was in the Army before and during the Vietnam War. Oh, well, my dad and stepmom do have a timeshare in Cancun.

No. You made the statement that "we know why he used the words that he did," meaning that he was pandering to his audience. McCain did, too.

Oh, I've had police dogs released on me when I was young (long story, I'm NOT a criminal :lol:), also had an officer point his gun at me, turned out to be my cousin (another long story). Was I scared? Yes. Terrorized? Not so much.

Of course, there are NEVER instances of police brutality. :lol:
