July 15, 200818 yr If you are saying reliever for AL how are you not taking K-Rod. I'm saying Cy Young just like the thread asks... Rivera hasn't blown any of his 23 save opportunities. He hadn't allowed 1 single run until last weekend. (0.37 ERA) (24+ innings pitched) Struck out 50 & walked 4 0.64 WHIP and 12.5-1 strikeout-walk ratio this year. The only closer ever to better those numbers, Dennis Eckersley, also won a Cy Young.

July 15, 200818 yr And one one has had better numbers (Saves) than K-Rod. Nobody has had as many opportunities as K-Rod. Rivera has a MUCH better ERA. If he keeps it up, he will end up having the 2nd lowest save situation ERA in MLB History. Closer Eric Gagne, in 2003, beat that ERA & guess what???? He won the Cy Young that year as a closer.
