Derek Jeter: Is he baseball's most overrated player?

Featured Replies

Jeter is nearing the following:

2,500 - Hits

1,000 - RBI

.316 - Batting average

.975% - Fielding pct.

8 time All-Star

10 times in top ten, for most hits during a season

8 times in top ten, for best batting average

9 times in top ten, for most runs scored during a season

4 times in top ten, for most 3B's during a season

8 times in top ten, for most AB's during a season

Jeter is not overrated, in my book and one of the best.

:thumb: I agree.

Derek Jeter is a class act and has had great success at SS for many years. He has given up his body for the team all throughout his career (anyone remember the dive into the stands a few years back). He has played his heart out for New York and has done it without throwing anyone under the bus. He has been the key factor for their multiple World Series trophies and in a lot of people's eyes he is the face of baseball and what baseball players should be and should act like. He is in no was overrated for what he has done on the field and for what he hasn't said or done off the field.

And this is coming from someone who very much dislikes the Yankees.

Jeter's value to the Yankees extends beyond just his on-field talent, IMO. I suppose you could debate on whether he's "overrated" by definition, but no way is he THE most overrated player in the league.

I completely agree STRIKE. :thumb: All someone has to do is look at the mans stats, look at the way that he carries himself on and off the field, what a leader he is and what he has meant to the greatest franchise in MLB history (and is far from done yet).

Jeter has placed his legacy with the likes of Gehrig, Mantle, Dimaggio and an entire list of the names in Yankee history and monument park.

All that I can see is Yankee hatred and jealousy by his peers.
