Jimmy Carter Tells Obama:" Don't Pick Hillary!"

Featured Replies

Barack Obama should not pick Hillary Clinton as his vice-presidential nominee, former president Jimmy Carter has told the Guardian.

"I think it would be the worst mistake that could me made," said Carter. "That would just accumulate the negative aspects of both candidates."

Carter, who formally endorsed the Illinois senator last night, cited opinion polls showing 50% of U.S. voters with a negative view of Clinton.

In terms that might discomfort the Obama camp, he said: "If you take that 50% that just don't want to vote for Clinton and add it to whatever element there might be who don't think Obama is white enough or old enough or experienced enough or because he's got a middle name that sounds Arab, you could have the worst of both worlds."

Carter says he favors Sam Nunn, the former Chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, who hails from his own state of Georgia.

Now is that a way to talk about your elders? You know I would never address a president or former president in those kind of derogatory terms.:D

I understand why the former president is high on Nunn(southerner, strong on defense, national security, etc...) , but Clinton has a lot of supporters, especially among women-- a vital demographic.

I'm not so sure Hillary will make or break the race for Obama. She would bring a fair share of positives and negatives to the ticket IMO.

From someone who has a picture of him on his "peanut farm" with his best wishes signed on it to "me"....................I will have to say that you are way off .....he is a LOT off his rocker.

At one point in my life I thought he was the greatest. Now I think he needs to be locked up.

Does anyone agree with Carter that Sam Nunn would be a better pick than Hillary?
Putting Sam Nunn on his ticket would improve the chances of Obama getting my vote by 100% - but 100% or zero is still zero.

Democrats have moved way too far to the left for Nunn to ever be on a Democratic ticket. He is probably more conservative that McCain - assuming than he has not taken a hard left turn himself after retiring from the US Senate.

What are the odds that we can get Jimmy as Secretary of State? :D

This is actually good advice for a different reason. I don’t think I would want to have Hillary get a promotion in the event of my death. People tend to die around the Clintons.

I think he need's to pick someone other than Hillary as a running mate.
