A true competitor, many athletes at that age would just hang it up, but the drive in Smoltz is what keeps him going.

 

 

Smoltz said during spring training that he was suffering from excruciating pain from the later part of last year and during the first of this year, and he still, for the most part, dominated a lot of hitters. A great baseball player and an even greater person!

Hampton is on schedule to come back around July, he threw about 25 four-seamed fastballs and felt no discomfort. Who's to say how that will work out though, he is scheduled to throw again soon. The Braves are trying not to rush him back that way he can easily get back into the groove of things, and if not start then atleast he may can provide some bullpen help.

We already saw more out of Hampton than I ever expected to see again. In April he actually showed up to the ballpark, in uniform, expecting to pitch. Naturally because it is Mike "I'm A Walking Injury" Hampton, he didn't make it into the game. I have believed since 2006 that I'd never see him pitch in the majors again, and ole Mike hasn't disappointed yet. Which was a shame, because he pitched pretty well in 2004 and was a vital part of that team. He pitched decent in 2005 but was injured.

Smlotz said he will try to come back next year and I hope he does. He's a class-act.

The only way I don't see Smoltz coming back is if the doctor tells him there is too much damage to repair. Other than that I believe Smoltz will be back with the Braves next year.
