The original post says he may retire, but I never really thought that he may not retire was also a possibility. I wonder if someone else could give us another possibility.

June 4, 200818 yr Very sad news. Smoltz, IMO, is a lock for the HOF or atleast should be anyway. I hate to see such a great competitor have to end his career this way.

Best of luck to him. Smoltz has always been a true professional, too bad he hasn't rubbed off any on Hudson. I seriously wonder if he's holding off announcing his retirment so he, Maddux and Glavine can retire together, and go into the HOF at the same time.

I know a couple of years ago, Glavine, I think it was anyway, said that he does not want to retire on the same year as Smoltz or Maddux. He said nothing of disrespect but that each pitcher deserved their own special moment in history. But who knows how that stands now.
