But $1 Million a year for 15 years............come on people.

 

 

I thought Obama was about change and not playing politics and favorites.........................

 

 

I guess I'm going to have to keep talking slowly for those that haven't seen the big picture here beyond Trinity getting $1 Million for each of 15 years. (I think Leatherneck is right no one wants to the real hard work of opening the links or digging for the whole picture)

 

 

The Government has earmarked close to $300 Billion for these various church faith-based grants. Do you understand how little $15 million over 15 years in that picture?

 

If you followed one of my earlier links you would see an urban Philly church that supported the Bush campaign, received $1 Million for their ministry.

 

If you bother to open the link explaining the urban ministry you would see the plan is to financially support faith based groups that are feeding the hungry, educating the inner city kids, and building up their community.

 

Trinity is one of many to get such grants. However the money DOES NOT go into the church budget for church use. When you say, "Trinity got . . ." the reality is that an urban ministry received this money. That urban ministry, up to now, was run on Trinity budget money or some other grant money. They did exactly what your church can do. Look to see what needs to be done to help your community, find the initiative to construct a ministry (logistics and all), and then apply for these grants.

 

There are MORE than enough reasons to dislike what Obama has said or particularly what Trinity and Rev. Wright have said. However this is NOT ABOUT THEM. It's about the people that are being helped that would not otherwise have these opportunities. NO ONE BROKE THE LAW. They did what is available to any church or faith based group. Right now the Church of Scientology is trying to get a grant for a rehab clinic based on their approach to addiction healing.

And no other church in this nation has received any government grants? This won't stop me from voting for him.

There's a very good reason to remain a part of such a body. Rather than jump ship, wouldn't it be better to stay on board and try to bring about change? Being part of a church family is like being married. For better or worse.

 

I'm not saying that's what Barack was doing because in his first book, he calls Wright his mentor. But I would honestly think better of him if he hat stayed at Trinity to fix what's wrong with it, rather than making such an obvious political move of cutting off the gangrene thats stinking him up.

Seriously...maybe I'm just too "Catholic", but how does one just "move on" from a faith, or a way of practicing faith? I don't think it should be that easy. To me, your comment is indicative of the "disposable" theory too many subscribe to today.

I didn't say "faith," I said "church." If one's church is no longer grasping the hand of God, it is time to move on. That does not mean that one should not attempt meaningful reform, for a time, but I believe (and I believe scripture backs me up here) that we are not called to continue to patronize a church that has turned its back on Christ.

If you believe in the mission of the church, but there are problems, do you abandon the mission? Or do you try to stay the course? The is more to a church than the 4 walls and the pastor. And, as a church, relative to the broad scope of it's ministry, I don't believe that Trinity has turned it's back on Christ. Look at what they do in their community. Don't just look at what their (former) pastor preached in some clips you saw on youtube or the evening news. It's not all "bad news" at that church.

Our tax dollars have supported much worse. Our tax dollars have in fact helped fund terrorism at one point in time.
