May 23, 200818 yr No offense Hearsay... but people continue to associate Obama with Wright even after he denounced Wright, had he not denounced him it would be far worse. QUOTE] I thought he said he couldn't disown/denounce Rev. Wright?
May 23, 200818 yr No offense Hearsay... but people continue to associate Obama with Wright even after he denounced Wright, had he not denounced him it would be far worse. I wish it were the case that this wouldnt have to be publicized, but witrh the mdeia so focused on spinning everything towards the nagtive, you almost have to make a pubic statement to have any seperation, and even then it still doesn't give an absolute seperation. I'm not disputing any of that, and of course you are correct, but I am lamenting the attitude of guilt by association and that we have allowed the media to dominate how we present ourselves.
May 23, 200818 yr While I applaud McCain for not agreeing with Hagee's statements, as a sidebar, have we actually reached the point in this country where we have to make a press conference to reject someone whom is objectionable every time there is a public display of support? Are we that thin-skinned? Hey, lets take it further, McCain should say if Hagee votes for him he will not count his vote, too. To be consistent, I did not participate in the Rev. Wright threads, either. Obama listened to the man for 20 years, and that in and of itself should say what it needs to say to voters, but I don't think he had to hold a press conference to say he rejected his support. Depends on who the "we" is that you are referring to. McCain shouldn't have to publicly state his disproval, but unfortunately with today's media he had to. And it was the right thing to do, both ethically and for the good of his campaign.

Someone told me the other day, and I found it to be very true, that what made our "GREAT" presidents so great was the fact that we didn't have CNN and Fox News when they were in office....

Better leaders were found when the media wasn't as abundant because things like public speaking skills and general appearance had little to no affect on the minds of voters. Many Presidential historians say that in today's time Abraham Lincoln would never have been a candidate. He was considered ugly and had a very high-pitched voice. Truth be known there is probably an unattractive, well-rounded indivdual with ZERO public speaking skills on both party's sides that would be better suited to lead our country but wouldn't pass the look test to most Americans.

Let us not forget the effect another form of media has... SNL, John Stewart, Colbert, Leno, Letterman, etc... thier jokes and exposure can be used as a springboard, but it also implants ideas into Joe Voter's head that could become impossible to overcome. Additionally, a substantial portion of voters under the age of 30 actually utilize Stewart and Colbert as their defintiive news source.

May 23, 200818 yr I do think it is important that we the voters have first hand knowledge of who our potential president has/have had associations with.... Tells you a lot of the person's views and where they stand. I am not a fan of Hagee, I have never watched him. I know his brother personally but they are different as night and day with some issues... Any who, sounds like to me Hagee is a Preacher of the Gloom and Doom? Wright is a preacher of "White man is holding the man down"... Neither one get my attention.

Most definitely...being informed to most people is knowing the punchline to a political joke.

I am unattractive and extremely round, and most would argue that I talk to much. Vote Hearsay in November!
