Because you choose not to see that Adoration, Salvation, Reconciliation, Biblical Education, Cultural Education, Liberation, Restoration and Economic Parity all deal with helping the people in their community - Chicago - middle America - does not mean that they are not committed to America. That is where they are and they are trying to better the lives of the people in their community.

 

So if I stand up and say I am committed to the elimination of Measles in Africa (our Red Cross club is raising funds now) does that mean that I want people in America to have measles or that I don't support getting help for people in America who do have measles, or does it mean I understand the depth of poverty on that continent and that I am committed to helping it out while I continue to do work in my community.

Hamas engages in many humanitarian efforts among its own community but it is still a terrorist organization. Trinity's work in the Black Community does nothing to refute the allegation that it is a racist organization.

I agree. I just see a lot more Obama bashing on this site and I get sick of it. Neither has an advantage or disadvantage when it comes to lies. They're both politicians and we should all remember that.

Thanks for saving me the trouble...the only thing new or different about Obama is that he's the first black man to make a serious run at the White House (just like Hillary is the first woman to do so). Other than that, he's just another politician.

 

I think this myth that he's somehow "different"...a fresh, new candidate who stands for something...irritates me more than anything else in the election.

I reiterate just because someone listens to another person doesn't mean they agree with them. For instance, I've listen to speaches, for years, by Louis Farrakhan but that doesn't mean I believe what he says?

 

My oldest brother was a backer of the Black Panther movement and he used to tell me things about the movement does that now make me a follower?

 

I can agree with the general idea of your post. However, when you've attended the church and listened to the pastor's sermons for 20 years, and you call that pastor your mentor...it can't be brushed aside that easily.

My analogy is dead on. The fact that Trinity does worthwhile charity work in the black community has no bearing on whether it is or is not a racist organization. Charity work is a red herring, the same as it is in Hamas' case.

 

I am not equating racism with terrorism - just pointing out that good deeds do not necessarily change the essential nature of any organization. There are no "racism offsets" to be had.

If you look at the whole discourse no one has remarked about the particular ministries being done in Chicago by the church. One poster stated it was all a charade. My reply was intended to point out to the people EFFECTED by the ministries it was not a charade. It was ministry.

 

Aces decided to compare a terrorist group who does charity with a church that does charity. Both have grevious faults I will give you but would you like me to compare your church to Hamas?

 

I really can't believe I'm wasting my time defending a church that I disagree with and a candidate I won't be voting for in order to bring some form of civility and belief that "God works in more ways than my way."
