My analogy is dead on. The fact that Trinity does worthwhile charity work in the black community has no bearing on whether it is or is not a racist organization. Charity work is a red herring, the same as it is in Hamas' case.

 

I am not equating racism with terrorism - just pointing out that good deeds do not necessarily change the essential nature of any organization. There are no "racism offsets" to be had.

 

Maybe the problem is you call it "charity work" and I call it "ministry." It might very well be that they do it in the "black community" because there is no "white community" in their part of Chicago. Who then are they to minister to in their setting???? Just as I would not expect a ministry to African-Americans in most Eastern Kentucky communities, not because they are racists but because there is little to no Black community there.

Most people on this site are really quick to point out "racism" when it's a black group as the accused. But a lot of those same people refuse to believe that blacks still face hardships in this country as minorities. They refuse to believe that African Americans are still discriminated against this day in age in the United States. I think that is hilarious.

If you look at the whole discourse no one has remarked about the particular ministries being done in Chicago by the church. One poster stated it was all a charade. My reply was intended to point out to the people EFFECTED by the ministries it was not a charade. It was ministry.

 

Aces decided to compare a terrorist group who does charity with a church that does charity. Both have grevious faults I will give you but would you like me to compare your church to Hamas?

 

I really can't believe I'm wasting my time defending a church that I disagree with and a candidate I won't be voting for in order to bring some form of civility and belief that "God works in more ways than my way."

Your post makes it sound as if I said the the church was a charade - which I did not do. I am not disputing that Trinity has helped many people in its congregation and in the black community. My point is simply that their good deeds have no bearing on whether Trinity's positions are racist or not. You are confusing two completely different issues.

A ministry that preaches that God is no good if He does not take the side of African-Americans against whites and sets two standards for entry into heaven based on ones race is a racist ministry.

Then you jumped in the fray. I never said YOU called it such.

 

And if you read all the posts you would SEE that I did not try to defend some of the racism that seems to be in the faith statement of the church. (or at least the racism some claim to see)
