2008 DuPont Manual

Rowdy red ram or ram2003,

let me stray slightly off topic here about the grades issue in this thread. I thought every kid in the feeder schools makes it in REGARDLESS of grades. Is that wrong? Then after that, they pick the catholic school kids they want, or do they also pick from non feeder, public schools as well. I'm curious since we lost a girl after school had started to you guys last year, and she wasn't a 4.0 student, but maybe top third of the class of 200 girls. She was/is a great athlete in a few sports however, one of which you guys dominate.

Back on topic, I didn't see mention above of losing Aaron Cosby from last year, or was that the year before? SOmetimes my memory fails. He was a very good player for you guys.

That would normally be correct but Manual has NO official feeder schools. Every student there had to apply for a special program and go through a selective process.

This answer relates with the other. They pick from all students who apply. One of the reasons that there is such a high contengent of former private school students is because Manual is very arguably the best school in Jefferson Co., or the state of KY for that matter. These former private school kids are usually well suited academically and come from families with a high degree of concern for there children's education, in other words they are good students, and compete on an equal level with students from public schools over spots at Manual. This is also not a new phenomenon. I've heard many groans from the private school crowd about Manual stealing there middle school athletes. The truth is this has been common place at Manual before they were a good football program(I myself played for the catholic middle schools), but now the Manual is achieving success, it is being scrutinized by the private schools.

I can't speak to any specific cases, because there could be any number of reasons this student transferred. Most transfers into Manual that I knew of were simply a case of the student not liking atmosphere of the school they left. While I was there no one I knew transferred TO Manual (I knew more than a handful that transferred out of) for athletic reasons, I'm not naive enough to say that doesn't happen though.

He's gone. Good luck to him.

Sorry, been away awhile.

Rowdy, thanks for your answers, that answers a lot of my questions. The girl I mentioned definately was better off at Manual since she is interested in sports journalism. Plus she said she wanted boys. We were happy for her, it was just I thought if it were the other way around, folks would have raised an eyebrow. She actually played two games for us, then her 3rd game was for you guys, oddly enough against us. It was weird to say the least.

Yeah that is weird. Most transfers I knew of and there were not that many were over the summer not during the year, I knew of one baseball player who played for Trinity his freshman year and his dad lost his job and they could not pay for him to go there any more and the work study was not enough to cover so he transferred mid year and then sat out one season but I am not sure about the specific case you are talking about. Transfers were few and far between in my day though.

She must have had a very good reason to transfer to play the same season. One of my best friends in high school transfered in from Assumption her senior year because she literally ran out of classes to take in that building, and she still wasn't allowed to compete athletically for Manual.

The win at the Male 7 on 7 sounds prominsing for a team that lost their OC from last year. I've heard Nichols is taking over as OC. Although he is a defensive guy, this could be a good thing. He may be more willing to try new things rather than sticking with the long ball.

In the end it will need to be the linemen that advance Manual.
