Agreed McLovin--but the Shining Stars 17-u team has yet to be at full strength and has little or no playing time together as a team.

 

On the other hand, the Derick Smith team has played about 20 games (and a couple of tournaments) together.

 

Either way, should be fun to watch!

I love Robbie Stenzels game. He is a fantastic player.

 

The player in that class that everyone will need to watch is Scott Schuette of Lexington Catholic. He is playing with Shining Star Sports 15u team. In my opinion is one of the top players in his class. He is an amazing scorer and a very pure shooter. In his first game back from an ankle injury he had 25 points against 43 Hoops. Everyone will get an opportunity to see him play at the state tourney this weekend. Hopefully he will be back to full speed.

Very good team made up of Northern Kentucky kids. Kyle McCord who played at Scott High School and who now plays at Mt. Saint Joe is the head coach of the team.

Just curious, did you see any of the other teams play this past weekend at full strength? Who do the Kentucky Thunder and HLB have on their teams?

I agree.. Derek Smith Allstars are loaded and will win the tournament. There's no team remotely close to having the talent they have. Its off the charts. With the athletes and offensive firepower they have and especially the coaching, I hope they institute the mercy rule with a running clock.

Good one! I think it is wide open right now. What is most impressive to me is that there are at a minimum four really good U17 teams in Kentucky, and I may be leaving someone else out that are also very good.

You have to realize though that the DS Allstars are similar in dominance as to the early 90's UNLV team that featured Johnson, Augmon, Anderson, and Greg Anthony and won the NCAA by a 20 point margin per game. I do not understand why they even have to play the pool rounds, just give them the #1 seed and let the others play for 2.

Saw Shining Stars - Stowers yesterday in Adidas May Classic. Short roster or not, they looked very good blowing out a team in the semifinals.

No team comes close to DS. I agree. Phares will put them on the level of high major D1 team. If we keep talking about it, some team are liable to drop out from shear fear of having to play them. The dominated a Southern Cal #2 team that might have been the tournaments best shooting team. Am I right shooter? My guess is they are 1 to 1 even odds to win this event.

I don't beleive they are the most talented team. I think the Shining Star-Stowers team has a better first five.

Big mismatch at the guard position. Faulkners can't match up with Middleton and Sanford. McFarland is one of the best at his position and will be a problem for the DS team as well.

 

I do like the Donovon and Phares combo. But not enough to pick them over the Shining Star Sports-Stowers team.
