May 8, 200818 yr This was on Lance's Blog: Thought of the day "Listening to Reds fans anymore has made me realize that the entire baseball IQ of this city has dropped to so such a low level I fear that it will never recover." -Listener Al G. I have been saying this for a while now and 100% agree.
May 9, 200818 yr Is it that the baseball IQ level has dropped so low or just that the frustration level has reached so high?? It has been a long, painful run for Reds fans . . . .

May 9, 200818 yr Go sit in the middle of a group of fans at a game and get back to me. Some of the things you hear are laughable, and the rest is worse... Their fans. They pay for their ticket, they expect a decent product on the field, and they have a right to gripe. Whether or not certain people deem them to be "intelligent" gripes or not . . .
May 9, 200818 yr Their fans. They pay for their ticket, they expect a decent product on the field, and they have a right to gripe. Whether or not certain people deem them to be "intelligent" gripes or not . . . For the most part, they simply don't understand the game. And that's at a very basic level. Plus I hate the "I paid my ticket so I'm free to act like a moron" way things have "d"evolved...
May 9, 200818 yr Reds fans have been given way too much credit over the years for their supposed baseball knowledge.
May 9, 200818 yr As much as I would love to just pick on Reds fans, I think it works with A LOT of cities. A lot of places recognize and appreciate bunting a man to 2nd, sacrifice fly and sound baseball. Yeah, you are going to have the idiots that say "Get rid of x,y and z or why don't you just do this, this and this." Those people have no clue how options work, free agency, salary cap, active roster and all those things that go into it. In all honesty, how many people know how all those things work. I don't think Reds fans are any worse than other city that has struggled to do anything right the last few years. Yes, there aren't many cities with the rich and succesful history that Cincinnati has had in the past, but that doesn't mean that their fans want success anymore than another city.

Plus I hate the "I paid my ticket so I'm free to act like a moron" way things have "d"evolved... Big difference between "I paid my ticket so I'm free to act like a moron/idiot/drunken fool" and "I paid my ticket so I'm free to complain about the product or results, even though my complaints may not be entirely well-thought out". The Reds management breeds frustration in this town and frustrated, disgruntled fans sometimes makes less-than-intelligent remarks. Frankly, after a decade of misery, they have that right . . .
May 9, 200818 yr Lance was baffled that The E-mailers were all over the Callers for being "idiots". About 99.9% of callers to a radio show are terrible and have no idea what they are talking about. Fact of the matter is this is all true.

Well my thoughts are well thought out and I know the game. So they annoy me. Maybe it's the start of the shell of the profession I have chosen...

So because the Reds have been bad for the last 10 years that makes the fan base stupid? I don't buy that. I don't really have a reason for it but they just aren't very baseball smart. I talk sports with a lot of people everyday and the intelligence level of those I talk to amazes me. About 90% of them have no clue what they are talking about and it really bothers me. I can't stand to have a conversation with someone about sports that is clueless.

Fact of the matter is this is all true. I agree with that, but that works for just about ANY call in show, hence why I don't listen to any of them. That's not to say you won't get a caller or two with a valid point/argument. But a majority of people blindly follow or blindly rip their team with no common sense to back up their case.

That leads me to my point. The majority of these people are listening to the talking heads in this town so they are getting there thoughts from someone. I think thats part of the problem.
