Dominique Ferguson to UK

It also sounds like 2011 Vinny Zollo will be in the fold soon...

And will go down as one of the great names in UK history.

Just made a few calls and IMs and this kid sounds like a stud. Strong finisher that's working hard to expand his game...

Ferguson said he likes the "family atmosphere" at UK.

Who? Zollo or Ferguson?

Ferguson...

North Lawrence must be very good seeing he is a top 10 national prospect in his class and he doesn't even start. It is good to see he accepted this role even though he is rated so high. Good job Coach Gillespie on this verbal.

Only negative I have read about his game is that he is kind of caught in-between a face the basket 4-man that finishes strong, or a kid trying to expand game and be a 3 man with a great slashing game....still has a lot of time to develop.

IU fans are bummed with this one...

Matta was after this kid as well...

This kid has a 7'5 wingspan!

Can you say Tayshaun Prince.

At that age, size and skill level, I'd prefer the kid spends a good deal of time out of his comfort zone. Can't hurt IMO...

Nice problem to have...

Indeed. It dropped Gates big time, but helped his game overall. With the eye these type kids have on the NBA, they know they have to bring a well rounded game as a big these days...

Good points, but Gates's lazy tag probably also pulled him down as well.

What have you heard about Zollo? Everything I've read makes him out to be a stud.

That's part of my point. Gates dominated so much in the paint when he was there, the scouts thought a lot less of him for hanging around the perimeter. If he would have stayed in the paint and dunked on everyone's head for four years he'd be a top 3 kid in the class. It's what he's done pretty much every time he played down low against a major big.

I'll gladly take his more rounded game at the end of the Prep road. If Ferguson follows a similar path, I'll have the same stance as he slips and then rises in the rankings...

A lot of skill and natural size early.

He's got a frame that might be tough to bulk up.

Does sound like a kid that likes putting in the work...
