Theoldguy Posted April 22, 2008 Posted April 22, 2008 CovCath 7 Cov Holy Cross 5 in a 35th District seeding game, or as much as the CovCath infield tried to give it away, Nutini just wouldn't let it happen. With this victory, CovCath secures the #1 Seed in the 35th District by beating Beechwood 8-7, Cov Holmes 8-0 and Cov Holy Cross 7-5.
Theoldguy Posted April 23, 2008 Author Posted April 23, 2008 The CovCath good; Isler in his first at AB in the game goes deep (365 #4) with two runners on to give CovCath the lead. Maile finally makes a out in his third at bat hitting a ground ball 6-3 but the other three times he singles, walks and singles in a run with a seeing eye pop up right down the right field line, for the seventh run of the game for the Colonels. Nutini does it not only on the mound as he comes in to relieve Niehaus in the third inning, but at the plate as well. Nutini goes single FC and a huge double in the top of the sixth to break the 4-4 tie. The CovCath bad; The infield tried to give this game away with some shoddy play in the second and in the seventh innings. CovCath Pitching Danny Niehaus 2 2/3 innings 42 pitches 1 walk 1 K 4 hits 2 runs 1 run earned Brandon Nutini 4 1/3 innings 73 pitches 0 walk 6 K's 7 hits 3 runs 2 runs earned CovCath batting; 3 AB 2 hits 1 walk and 1 run scored Maile 2 AB and 1 sac LaFever 3 AB 1 hit and 1 run scored Darner 2 AB 1 hit HR (365 #4)1 walk reached base E-6 and 2 run scored Isler 3 AB 2 hits double reached base FC and 2 runs scored Nutini 2 AB and 1 SF VanSant 3 AB reached base FC and 1 run scored Holocher 2 AB and 1 walk Klein 1 AB and 1 sac Warning
Theoldguy Posted April 23, 2008 Author Posted April 23, 2008 Cov Holy Cross throws their ace, Roenker He gives up 6 hits 3 walks and 2 K's
cooperstown Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 Cov Holy Cross throws their ace, Roenker He gives up 6 hits 3 walks and 2 K's The 3 W's are a bit unusual for him. Did he go the whole game? Of the 7 runs, how many were earned? When you say the CCH infield was bad, exactly how many errors are we talking about? I ask because I believe that could well be the one major area of concern for CCH if they are to run the table in regionals.
h-dothework-c Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 would someone like to tell me what #21 is doing on varsity for hc...he doesnt do anything but warm up right
punttheball Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 would someone like to tell me what #21 is doing on varsity for hc...he doesnt do anything but warm up right You have posted twice now, both of them were negative comments. Didn't your mother tell you that if you don't have anything nice to say, then don't say anything at all.
Theoldguy Posted April 23, 2008 Author Posted April 23, 2008 All the CovCath runs were earned. CovCath hit the ball hard throughout the game, even their outs were mostly hard hit balls. The only seeing eye hit was Maile's pop up down the right field line, but he is going to get that hit, as most teams play hit so deep, that the right fielders just can't get to the ball, and most HS second baseman can't cover that much ground, that quickly.
colonel-fan Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 Big win for CovCath. Always good to get the #1 seed in the district.
bjknku02 Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 When you say the CCH infield was bad, exactly how many errors are we talking about? I ask because I believe that could well be the one major area of concern for CCH if they are to run the table in regionals. I would have to say that the infield had at least four errors, prolly a couple more. The first three batters of the 7th inning hit the ball to the SS and they all reached base. I know for a fact that one of the plays was an error (errant throw to 2nd), but the other two plays should have been made. There were several other errors made by the CCH infielders as well. If will be intersting to see how the infield handles the games this weekend in the LIT. When playing good teams more times than not they are going to take advantage of the extra outs. From what I have seen this CCH team is not nearly as sound defensively as in years past.

Getreal Posted April 24, 2008 Posted April 24, 2008 thank you for keeping tabs on me ha.....and i only said this so that he would see it:sssh: I believe from seeing his posts on different occasions that punttheball is a Cov Cath fan, but took exception to the what appeared to be bashing a player on Holy Cross and even stating his #. I know that it was not obvious to me either that you had an inside joke with this player. Nice job punttheball
thebigfella23 Posted April 24, 2008 Posted April 24, 2008 would someone like to tell me what #21 is doing on varsity for hc...he doesnt do anything but warm up right Happen to know 21 and is a great kid and will give you everything he's got, in baseball or football. He is a solid varsity player and is a great catcher. He calls a good game behind the plate and handles Roenker very well.
h-dothework-c Posted April 25, 2008 Posted April 25, 2008 Everyone can stop taking offense to this ha...i no him and knowing how mature he is he knew i was joking and could find the humor...no bad intentions
