We need to report on each of these games in their own thread.

If there was any question of who had the best and deepest pitching staff in the Ninth Region this season, there is no question about it after this weekend games. CovCath who had thrown Junior Brandon Nutini and Senior Danny Niehaus to beat a very tough Beechwood team 8-7 on Thursday, then throws Senior John Wehry, Junior Ryan Sainola, Junior Pat Krumme and Sophomore Matt Klein to win the Doc Morris Wooden Bat Tournament in outstanding fashion. These young men gave up only 3 earned runs, 7 hits, while striking out 17 and only walking 4 batters while each pitched complete games! WOW, talk about a deep staff of pitchers! That four straight complete games! You did notice, didn't you, that one of the CovCath aces Zach Isler wasn't even needed this weekend and will be well rested to pitch against either Cov Holmes or Cov Holy Cross this week as will a well rested Nutini and Niehaus, thats want you can do when you are so deep with pitchers as CovCath is this season. Congrats gentlemen.

Darn your tough DD, but I always thought the stat that most wanted was victories, and these young men earned four this weekend in impressive fashion, and yes the "D" is coming around fine thank you.

 

Now if you want to say that only earning a total of 17 K's was not impressive, then I am sorry, but the stats prove something else. Any team, no matter what level they play at, would love the effort that these these outstanding CovCath pitchers gave their team this weekend.

You missed my point Old Guy....the big write up is pitching when your stats indicate that defense and hitting were what seemed to account for these wins.

Ok, but defense can't do a whole lot when the balls are being pounded into gaps, over fences, and guys are being walked. Point is CCH's pitching made a statement this weekend.

Point is CCH has a few kids that can throw the ball over the plate and not walk too many batters. 4 K's a game average indicates that 17 batters put the ball in play, so I don't see any big pitching achivement.

 

Apparently CCH played good D and hit the ball well, but overwelming pitching?

When a pitcher induces a hitter to a hit easy ground balls time after time, it is pitching! Yes the infielders in the case of Wehry/Saniola games vs LLoyd and HHS had to field these ball, but I except the infielders to catch pop ups, and field ground balls that are hit to them. That's why a pitcher has seven players behind him, to catch those balls, and the ones that were hit to them this weekend for the most part were for easy outs.

You have got to be kidding me if you think that striking guys out is the only thing that makes you a good pitcher. Heck in high school to get four pitchers in a row to even give you a quality start is impressive. I'm not a CovCath fan by any means, but you can't be serious that just because they only struck out 17 batters in four games means they didn't get good pitching.

Just think the struggling CCH defense and hitters deserve as much or more credit according to the stats....as I said, Cov Cath does not have a dominating pitcher this year and if their D continued to struggle, their pitching staff would not have had the success that they did this weekend.

Well thats different.... I was simply posting in regard to your comments that you seemed to think because they didn't strike enough people out that they didn't get very good pitching.
