When a child or adult is brutally raped, that person dies inside.

You have taken their life from them when this happens.

I have a person in my family that was raped when they were very young, it was not brutal, thank goodness, but it still has effected their life very much so and has a hard time dealing with it even through much guidance, spiritual guidance.

I don't like it.

 

1) My conscience stands in strict opposition to the death penalty. I cannot support any expansion of it.

 

2) I'm not comfortable with cases in which so little hard evidence is required to go before a jury possibly ending in a death sentence. Like Hearsay above, I'm not prepared to accept everything that goes along with this proposal within our legal system.

What would be the purpose of imposing capital punishment versus a sentence of life in prison?

If the death penalty is legal, I have zero problems with using it on a convicted child rapist. But why not just place them in normal prison population, where they'd get killed anyways?

If there is little evidence it would be wrong to sentence someone to the death penalty, I agree with that.

I'm pretty sure child rapists do not go to the same prisons as everyone else, because if they did, they would be murdered shortly after arriving. I could be wrong, but I've heard that numerous times in my classes.

I'm ok with this, I may require a higher burden of proof before the death penalty can be used. For instances say multiple witnesses or DNA evidence. But I just have very little sympathy for these people. Also the law at question defines child as anyone 12 or under.

 

I'm not sure how you can have multiple witnesses for a child rape. It's usually done in the privacy of a home where no one ever sees or hears it. The only way to catch a child rapist is usually if the child speaks.

This guy is in the Little Sandy Correctional Complex, a medium security prison.

 

1st degree rape - 20 years

Sexual abuse in the first degree - 5 years

Tampering with physical evidence - 5 years

Murder - 999 years (eligible for parole under old Ky law in 25 years)

Attempted Murder - 20 years

True, it all depends on the individual case.

Personally, I'd like to see them tortured, then put to death.

Here are my objections with imposing the death penalty in cases of any type of rape, but especially the rape of a child.

 

1) Rape is traumatic for even adults. Depending upon the age of the child, and when the rape is discovered, the identification of an alleged rapist could depend upon the already immature, recently traumatized memory of a small child wishing to please adults.

 

2) If a 19 year old has sex with a 15 year old, that's considered rape. If the parents don't like the 19 year old, they could really put that kid's life in jeopardy.

 

3) I'm morally opposed to the death penalty no matter what.

 

4) The death penalty is final. If evidence is later found exonerating the excecuted, there's no turning back and even offering a token apology.

It is actually cheaper to keep someone in prison for life than it is to execute them.
