Enrollment #'s?

Featured Replies

Why is it that enrollment numbers are taken by the number of kids in a school instead of the # of boys? Do you think it will ever change and don't you think it would be a better way of breaking up the classes?

To me it makes no sense if a school had say 1,000 kids with 350 boys. That school would fall into a class of 1,000 instead of 350. Seems pretty silly to me.

It seems like a waste of time to me. The numbers should average out through the years, and it's unlikely there would be a big difference between boys and girls numbers at any school.

It would have made a big difference at my old school in the past. I do see why it's that hard to get an average over so many years then recheck it every couple of years like they already do.

I believe for football classification, the KHSAA now uses the number of boys, not the total enrollment.

It's true. If you go on the KHSAA site they explain how it is done. They use the number of boys in the school since girls rarely if ever play football. I believe the other sports use total enrollment.

Which is why Louisville Central, a good sized school, is 3A in football. They have something like a 70/30 girl/boy breakdown.

The four year boy enrollment is used to determine football class. I also, think that an average boy enrollment is used in the calculation, so a school does not change class every year. Here is a link to the current alignment with the four year boy enrollment and the four year boy average.

What 4 year period do they use for their enrollment numbers?

Thanks!

I remember seeing that when the new alignment came out.
