But someone told me the other day that the ones being killed locally are saturated with seed ticks. One guy said he didn't keep one for that reason. Are ticks a problem as far as keeping a turkey?

No, ticks on a turkey are the same with ticks on a deer they will not affect the meat. They are nasty to fool with but you shouldn't waste the meat it won't hurt you.
April 23, 200818 yr Author My old man tagged out yesterday. He killed one on Monday at a friend's property (21/10/1in.) and he tagged a whopper from public ground yesterday. It weighed 23lbs. had double beards, one 9-1/2 and another 8in. and had 1-1/8 spurs. Congrat's to my old man, who by the way, sounds more like a Canada goose than an eastern wild turkey. Just goes to show, contest callin' ain't all it's wrapped up to be!

You are correct about contest callin, it's a whole different game that is centered around $$$$. The worst turkey call I have ever heard (except for J. Lewis:lol:) came from a live hen.
April 24, 200818 yr Author Spindoc is done. Tagged out on a longbeard that came approx. 1000 yds from across a field. Had a standing jake and a submissive hen on the ground in front of him. He craned his neck to see the pair every 40 yds between struts. Then he got a face full of 6's at 30 yds. 22.4lbs, 10-1/2 in. beard and 1-1/8 spurs. He's currently in the crockpot!

June 5, 200818 yr Bagged my 2 birds. One on opening day at Peabody & the other on the 17th in Webster Co. 27,073 birds tagged in this season. Lookin to fall season now!:dancingpa:dancingpa
