Boys.....The midget is snakebit.......plain and simple.

Let me lay it out for you.

We went to scout a place that a friend said had "tons of turkeys on it". It was barren. No turkey sign. No roost trees. Come to find out, they saw them in the winter, not since.

So, a friend calls at 7:00 and says "Get over here, the turkey is strutting up the cemetery road." So, off we went. Got there, and sure enough, there he was. We belly crawled to a pile of fresh cut oak logs and kept the pile between us and the tom. He's 65 yds. strutting and taking three steps at a time, literally 10 min. at that rate from being at 30 yards. Then..........out of the blue, from the other side of the cemetery comes a car. Pulls up, rolls down the window and then a kid jumps out and chases the turkey over the hill.

How could I make that up?

Bless his heart, he said "I should have shot at the kid". I feel his pain.

Funnier part, other than my friend says "I've never seen anyone at that cemetery", is that on the way out, I told him, look up in the trees, he probably flew up in one. And sure enough, there the tom was, at he top of an oak tree, sticking out like a sore thumb.

What can I say?

If I was the midget, with the luck he's had this year I might have shot the kid then shot the old Tom out of the tree.:lol::lol:

Gentlemen, banner day in the life of spindoc!

:dancingpa

Got to go with my dad this morning and I went one direction, he went the other. Great to get out with my old man! I knew if I were unencumbered that I'd get a crack at the boss. He gobbled once on the limb, done, pitched down, strutted all the way to an open point and spit and drummed to gather his harem. So, I never made a peep, kept tabs on him as he kept up the ruuuuuuuuuuummmmph! Put the super sneak on and as he strutted his way into view, I clucked, he should have ducked, and the boss is in the fridge. 25.14 lbs, 1-1/8 spurs and a first for me, his beard was as big around as a quarter and broken off at around 3 inches, white on the tips, I don't know if it froze, mites, what! He was big fun. And the pope's lip is still intact!

But,,,,,,,the most important issue of the day is this.....the midget is officially on the board!!

The only downside is I am in Lex. for a basketball tourney and he was with my dad. I sent him back to the place that the kid ran the tom off and he and my dad set up in a 2-man blind and stuck a jake decoy out and they said that the tom tried to "stomp the guts out of the jake" and the midget waxed him. One of the best phone calls I ever received. A memory that he and my dad will never forget. I suppose that he just needed me out of town to unload the dead weight. Now there's the issue of taxidermy. Bird was 21.4 lbs, 9-1/2in. beard, 1in. spurs. Like I said, banner day in the spindoc household!!! Oldrambler was right!!!!:banana::banana:
