Great College players...Not so great in NBA

Featured Replies

Dennis Hopson, O$U's All-Time leading scorer. Drafted 3rd overall only lasted 6 seasons with a career PPG of 10.9. He was drafted ahead of Scottie Pippen, Kenny Smith, Kevin Johnson, Reggie Miller, Mark Jackson and Kenny Smith.

Rick Robey--remember he was picked 3rd overall by the Pacers and ahead of Larry Bird (although this was after Bird's Junior season so the Celts had to wait a year on him). But to his credit he did end up being traded for Dennis Johnson so he helped the Celts out.

On the same line, how about Jack Givens?

Kyle Macy, Steve Alford.

Even Kenny Walker never became the player in the NBA that he was in college.

Who was the player at Auburn about 5 years ago that was so tough and did nothing in the NBA?

Chris Porter?

Chris Porter?

That's him. I thought he would have a decent career and nothing really.

I don't know, David Thompson, should give him a run for his money.

I think Stacey King could beat them both. He averaged 24 PPG in college his last 2 seasons, he was touted by some as the college player of the decade. Picked 6th overall in the draft he only averaged 6.4 PPG over an 8 year NBA career--but he did get 3 rings with the Bulls.

Yeah, but he had a great hairdo.

Maybe you meant Byron Houston. Allan Houston played 12 years and averaged 17.3 PPG and .402 % from 3 for his career. He also played in 2 All-Star games.

And got the Allan Houston Rule named after him.

For the UK faithful:

Tony Delk

Scott Padgett (career:4.2 ppg)

Johnny Cox

Wayne Turner

Jeff Sheppard

For the UC faithful:

James White

Steve Logan

Kenny Satterfield

Dermarr Johnson

Tony Bobbitt

Mel Levett

Scott May of IU fame should be mentioned.

I believe I heard Bobby Knight call him the best player he ever coached.

How about his son, Sean?

How about his son, Sean?

I thought the same thing...I haven't heard anything about Sean since the 2005 championship season with UNC

For the UK faithful:

Johnny Cox

Wayne Turner

Jeff Sheppard

Delk had a decent career. I remember him dropping 50 one night as a member of the Warriors.

Nick Collison a few years ago of Kansas. He went to Seattle and has done nothing.

And got the Allan Houston Rule named after him.

Yeah, but to be fair that was because he had been unable to play due to knee injuries--not because he wasn't a good player. The rule allowed teams to buy out a contract and erase it from their salary cap. Houston was still a very good player when injuries did him in--he wasn't a bust at all.

He's been a serviceable big man. I wouldn't label him a bust.
