Track the Reds (Week 1)

If Bailey had any legit value on the open market, he would have been moved last month. I wouldn't hold my breath...

Question. Hypothetical. In the event that Volquez and Cueto can sustain a solid clip through the all-star break, would the front office be willing to package Homer to bolster the lineup somehow? I'm not talking a rent-a-player, I'm talking a solid deal. Homer and Freel package for instance? Just thinking forward. IMO, I doubt that Homer would be dealt, but considering he's leaps and bounds seemingly behind these 2, I wonder if things play out as I stated above if the front office could be enticed to deal him?

I just don't know what type of player you'd be targeting to "bolster the lineup" with that deal. Freel has zero trade value. It always amuses me to read the "we'll give them Freel, Coffey and Stanton for their best prospect" trade suggestions. At best he is a bench contributor or a AAA starter.

If you held onto Bailey last year when his value was at its highest you surely can't part with him now. That's some Jim Bowden type thinking there.....

I don't know why people are so hung up on Homer. I agree with you, they would deal him if they could. Heck, they tried to all winter, but the return was nothing like the Reds expected it to be. Hopefully Homer will change his attitude, work hard and take Foggs spot. I doubt it though.

I am loving Volquez and Cueto though.

How big has Paul Bako been for the Reds so far? I think with the way he's hitting he should be the starter not only with Volquez and Cueto pitching but in general. It really helps having a veteran catcher calling the game with young guys like that.

Valentine is somewhat shaky behind the plate defensively and Ross is shaky at the plate. He's either on or very very off.

Bako is a career .232 hitter. He's pretty much an identical player to Ross...

Legitimate point. With Volquez and Cueto on the mound though, I much rather have a veteran like Bako back there calling the signals.

I agree there. Just pointing out his stick is pretty poor outside of the small sample size here...

Agreed. Valentine probably has the most consistent bat of the 3 with Ross having the most power, but Valentine is just too shaky defensively to be the everyday starter.

I think they need to keep all 3 on the roster when Ross is ready... And I think Kepp needs to be in the ballgame...

Great day for baseball today, and it was nice to see the Reds do it on all angles. They had some good baserunning, good pitching, hit some homers and played some small ball. If they do what they did today they will win a lot of games...
