March 27, 200818 yr I went to Clearcreek Rifle Range today. It's a really nice range at Cave Run Lake on the Zilpo side of the lake. Here's some pics.
March 27, 200818 yr Author I've been considering them. I know where it's at. What's the cost? Do I need to join the club? Who do I contact? Details please.

You can go to the clubhouse, which is the first entrance, and someone can help you there with an application. I am not sure what a new membership costs, possibly $50? It's very nice and if you shoot much at all, it's well worth it. I typically use the DeZarn range when sighting in my long range weapons. Great spot!

I've been to Clear Creek several times in the past but not in the last few years. It is a great FREE shooting range maintained by the Corps of Engineers. When did they build the cover? That is a nice addition. We used to spot light in that area before it was illegal (not poaching, just spotting). We'd see a ton of deer in the Clear Creek / Zilpo area in an evening. Lots of fun back in the day. But all good things come to an end, I guess.
March 27, 200818 yr Author That's my first time there in a few years myself. It's a fee use area. $5.00 a carload, self serve pay, honor system. The cover and shooting benches are real nice. The benches are real heavy duty with swivel seats. In the 1st pic you can the bathroom, also nice and clean.

March 27, 200818 yr What hours of the day would be good to visit and check on an application? I've been trying to remember the fella's name who does the membership stuff, and it has slipped my mind. I usually see the gate open on Fridays, and that's the day I usually go, there's generally not many, if any, people out at that time. I'll think of the name and let you know. I'm getting old!!!:irked:
March 27, 200818 yr Author Probably not as old as me. I'm pretty sure there's a couple of guys at work who belong to the club. I can asked them when I see them. Thanks.

March 27, 200818 yr Good thread TGF and thanks for sharing the pics. Doc sent you in the right direction. Northeast is a great place.
March 27, 200818 yr Author Yeah I think I'll check into Northeast. Clearcreek holds a special place in my heart. My dad and I used to camp at Clearcreek campground and hunt and fish that area. We had some great times there. I've spent a lot of time in that area for the last 30 plus years. My dad's 75 now and in bad health, so we'll not get to go there together again.
March 27, 200818 yr Northeastern is the best range around. You won't go wrong by joining, I think the fee is $45, if I remember correctly.

I am very sorry to hear about your dad's health TGF, I always enjoyed the conversations with him during football season. My Thoughts and Prayers are with your dad and family. Just remember the great times you and he shared at Clearcreek. Nothing can ever take away those memories.
