Where do you go to shoot?

Featured Replies

That's my first time there in a few years myself. It's a fee use area. $5.00 a carload, self serve pay, honor system. The cover and shooting benches are real nice. The benches are real heavy duty with swivel seats. In the 1st pic you can the bathroom, also nice and clean.

Didn't know they had added a fee, but for the new amenities, $5 a carload is a real bargain.

Bathroom? Swivel Seats? Wow, that sounds really nice.

How long range do you shoot?

I love my guns but I only get to shoot on a valley fill, no public range that I know of in Pike County.

I'm really wanting to get into long range shooting, shot a Barrett .50 cal and it was an experience. I have been looking at getting a 700 Remington but everything I have read says that the .338 Lapua Magnum is the flattest shooting cartridge for long range shooting. Any advice?

Watusi we need to go shooting some time.

I don't normally shoot over 400 yds, but I have a Remington 700 in 30-06, I love it, probably the best most accurate shooting gun I have. I also have a 600 in 6mm, excellent gun as well.

If you want to shoot long range, I would say you can not go wrong with a 700 in 308. Almost every sniper rifle is built on the 700 in 308 (other then the Barrett).

I did a lot of research before I bought my 700, and I could not find a reason to get a different weapon.

I've been hearing a lot about the .338 Federal. They actually researched the cartridge for optimum performance then went to the gun makers to build the rifles. I've heard the army is looking at it as a sniper round. DPMS makes as AR10 for it that is really sweet.

I can shoot at my in laws place also. But it's nice to go to a good range also.

I love just shooting down on my farm, I enjoy it very much!

I'm thinking about making a little range at my inlaws. I know I can go at least 100 yards. Since the tobacco buyout the fields are pretty much unused and I can shoot up the hollow with out any worry about the back drop. I need to build a shooting bench and measure off some distances and I'll be good to go. The only problem is it's a little over an hours drive away.
