But you put him in an allstar or an AAU game with very little defense being played his natural ability shines through. He was as athletic and almost as talented as anyone on the floor tonight. Did you watch the Sweet 16? Did you watch the 2 games he played in Lexington early in the season? Did you watch the games he played last year when he came to Lexington? Did you watch him in the All A?

 

He is lazy. How many times against LexCath did he go to the offensive boards? How many times did he just stand and watch someone put in a layup and not try to block a shot? How many times was he the last person back on defense? How many times did he even bend his knees on defense? How many steals or block shots did he have?

 

These are all legitimate questions that I for 1 could not answer positively in his situation.

If half of the negative comments like these were steered toward some of the eastern Kentucky players there would be a total meltdown were the poster gets banished and the player gets a full-scale support group.

I saw him in the game against MCHS and he impressed me, I think he had 22 points in 12 minutes of play, he was in foul trouble the whole game. He also took over at the end and won the game for them.

You can have an abundance of talent and still be lazy. He shows it every time he steps on the court.:thumb:

I'll try to translate for you guys. By "sorry", LMB means that the kid is just flat out lazy. He looks like he doesnt care except for when he has the ball in his hands. He may have had games during the year where he goes all out a little more, but when he has come to this part of the state that just hasnt been the case.

 

You guys can laugh and go on all you want, but the fact of the matter is when Hopson has been around Lexington he hasnt played hard at all. He will get his points. I can admit and LMB will as well that Hopson can get by anyone he wants at any time during the game, its just a matter of him wanting to. He never wants to play defense though. He will get some boards, but when it comes to guarding someone he relies on his natural abilities more than he does effort, which is a lot of what defense comes down to.

 

Yes S3, you can be talented and lazy. It is very possible. I would have thought you would know that? If you cant admit he is as lazy as he is talented I have to wonder about what games you are watching when Hopson is playing in high school. Notice I am excluding AAU from all of this as I have not seen him play an AAU game.

I have seen him probably now 12 or 13 times in the past 2 seasons. I have NEVER seen him play hard for more than a posession or 2 at a time. How can a guy be so talented and not even put up a fight in the 1st round of the state tournament? Its because he does not play hard!

I say all of the above, but I have to follow it up with this. It wouldnt bother me to see him at UK. If there is a coach that could get effort out of the kid, I think Billy G could. However, if he comes in with the attitude and effort I have seen in the games I have seen him play he will be sitting a lot and would be a potential transfer, IMO.

If Hopson is that good not playing hard. He has a great up side with the right coach at the next level. Hope it is UK and Billy G.

Please don't attempt to lecture me, on what talent and lazy is. I'm not interested and fully capable of forming my own opinions, based off observations. This young man, represented Kentucky in the McDonald's All-American game and yet, some of you still look to find only the negative.

 

I'll take the opinions of College coaches and those who actually watch games, not to criticize.
