Billy Hicks COY 11th Region

The KABC award (unless I am mistaken) is voted upon by anyone who is a member of the KABC. Not all coaches belong to this group. Anyone who coaches at any level (middle school, freshman, JV or Varsity)can join this group. Coaches are allowed to vote for themselves as well.

I agree that Billy is one of the top coaches in the state. He gets great players to move there because of Toyota and also the fact that Scott County has a great facility and great tradition. He plays a national schedule and has the ability to get the best of his talented players. He has great financial support as well. He does a great job with his summer camps also.

They always seem to reload and never rebuild. They will continue to be a state power for years to come.

Plus he lost one of the best player in the state this year. The seniors of the team was role player when they was State Champs. Maybe other coach's

should have won but Coach Hicks won!

Give some of the other coaches in that region his players and see what they do with them! Why is it the so called best coaches always have the best talent? Dont give me the excuse that he developed them either they just happen to be very fortunate to have a very good base of players. Take Rick Pitino to Richmond Model and the difference wouldnt be as much as you think.

All indications are that Coach Hicks is an excellent coach and has developed a powerhouse basketball program where kids want to play.

Just this year, since we are posting, my opinion would have supported Ligon or Hutchinson before Hicks.

However, I have already recommended that Scott County be given its own region 11 3/4 and I recommend Coach Hicks for COY.

I watched a lot of teams in the 11th region this year and I did not think Scott Co. had the best talent by any means. Dunbar, Bryan Station, and Henry Clay were loaded IMO.

I think coach Hicks is deserving of the award and did a great job with the Cardinals this season.

Of course, Henry Clay was missing their best player for most of the season. It would have been interesting to see what the Blue Devils would have done if Moses had been healthy ... and if Guyn had stayed there.

Scott County was very talented last season, and they won the state title. This year, when they didn't have the best talent, they would up losing in the regional semifinals.

I also noticed that Hicks lost two or three assistant coaches from the state title team. I know Griesser and Hundley went to Montgomery County. Maybe those guys were a bigger loss than anyone expected, too.

I'm sure it didnt help any when all they gained was Hicks son Tyler. I believe Greisser and Hundley worked with the big guys for the most part, but any time you lose a coach that worked at the college level and one that played at the college level it cant necessarily make anything better for the program.
