I'm sure the boos were amplified by the recent news of Euton. Hicks can always be deserving of this award, but I would have liked to have seen Ligon get it after BS tried to get rid of him this past summer. Would have been a nice little in your face to the administration. For what its worth, a lot of people may not like Hicks, but this says a lot about him when his peers vote for him to win the thing.

Well put. It would have been great to see Ligon win the award, but it's great to see Hicks get the respect that he deserves.

Ligon or Hutchinson would have gotten my vote. I probably would have given it to Hutchinson, because he did more with less talent. Ligon has built a strong program, but never got them over the hump and into the sweet 116.

Scott has become a "mega-sports" program, like Catholic. Maybe they are the Duke of KY high school sports. People love to root against a perennial winner, that gets a lot of media attention.

Once Scott County builds their new High School in a few years, it will split the talent somewhat. And nobody stays on top forever.

The new school will be apart of Scott County High for ten year or more that the plan of the school system. It only holds 795 students will be a Tech School! So all the hater can still hate about 15 years or more. Plus it will be a school of choice for the student of Scott Co.:sssh:

I firmly disagree with the doing more with less statements. Hutchinson had a lot of talent this year!

As for the term "mega sports" program, Scott Co. is a county school with good community support. Whats wrong with that?

Log Mountain, they are still mad Martha Layne Collins found a good plot of land in Scott County for Toyota rather than in any of the other 119 counties!

Ligon shouldve most definatly gotten this award. His team played better, went farther, and brought Station to a powerhouse. If not him then Hutchinson at Dunbar.

So does Hicks even care that he got this award? I mean, does there come a point in your career where you've racked up so much hardware that it becomes meaningless?

I agree with Hutchinson as COY. He did not have the level of talent that Scott, Bryan Station, or Catholic had. He really developed them over the course of the year. Dunbar and Scott should be top of the 11th region next year pre-season.

If not Red, I would vote for Ligon. I just do not understand how Hicks got the award. Maybe due to how he handled the Mackey situation, and was still able to have a very good year.

This is my feeling also.

LogMountainBoy - if Dunbar had as much talent as the other schools like Scott County, Station, or Catholic, why weren't there players rated pre-season as high? I bet many on this board could name at least one player on Scott, Station or Catholic. How many could name the Dunbar players? I follow the sport, and watched them play in at least 4 games this year. I am having trouble remembering any of their players names. I could name Guyn, Phares, Hundley, Mack, Burdette, Combs, Novasel, Stewart, Sanford, Smart, Botkin, etc...

Dunbar was definitely the surprise of the 11th region this year. Probably both boys and girls.

You have got to have BOTH the talent and the coaching. A lot of hard work, and some luck along the way. This year, we had a lot of really really good teams. Many of them in the 11th region. But the finals were a 9th vs 10th championship.

I thought that the other coachs vote on this, wouldnt fellow coaches know who is deserving of the award when they vote. I'm not sure why this thread is questioning the awardee....(if thats a word). Maybe instead the thread title should be "Were 11th Region Coaches Bribed/Recruited by Toyota to vote for Coach Hicks for 11th Region Coach of the Year?" :)

I thought Dunbar had all kinds of talent. I believe that Hudson and Dion Johnson are 2 of the best players in the region. As for preseason rankings, they mean nothing, but to humor you in the Lexington Herald top 25 preseason players list, Bryan Station only had Mack on the list and Scott Co. didn't have a player on the list.

I am not saying he didn't do a very good job, but I disgree with saying they had less talent. IMO Henry Clay had the most talent in the region.
