The big problem that North Laurel faces is that most of the basketball talent in the county ends up at South Laurel. When teams are successful, they often get kids who transfer in to be a part of it, which has happened at South Laurel and is often at North's expense.

 

There is no question South Laurel has had an incredible run of success in the 12th and now the 13th Region over the past several years. Has there been any kids who were substantial factors on those teams that transferred from North Laurel.

Does Lynn Camp return all of their starters? It seems to me I can't remember them ever having the number of kids with size and athleticism they had this year.

There is talk of Cody Miller coming to Corbin. I'm not saying it's a fact but if that happens, Corbin could intentionally try and lose yet still make it to Rupp.

There is a lot of talk going around. Hazard, Corbin and even some schools up North. Hounds82, this isn't directed towards you or anybody for that matter but doesn't people shopping around get on anybody else's nerves. It seems that anymore everyone is jumping from here to there. I know that sometimes there are circumstances beyond ones control. However, I have been hearing up to 6 players in basketball alone ( 13th region) who are trying to find another place to play next year. When is enough going to be enough. I don't have an answer but maybe it should just be open season and we should let them jump and not even have any rules governing this aspect. Then maybe so many of them wouldn't want to do it. I don't know but it seems to get worse with each passing year.

The only problem I have with the rules and it is simply this, if an athelete can't play for a team and in some cases its just because the coach does not like the kid for whatever reason, then why should a kid have to stop enjoying something that they love to do just to appease other peoples opinion. Now in no way do I mean if you are a superstar or get ample time in the sport of your choice should you just up and decide to move just because. But a kid that does not or will not help your program in any way why should they stay and wait for something that is never going to happen. After all these kids have to get out in the real world in 4 years or less and then life really does begin. This is just my opinion.....

Wow. What an incredibly biased and ignorant statement.

From Watching the game this past region final, it kind of looked like the lost on purpose, so they have that down pat, and it should not be a problem in the future.

Unless...a couple of current players moves on or doesnt play due to it being too "crowded"...

Good point, it is unfortunate that many kids would probably like to get in a program where they just have the opportunity to play. A lot of kids that play 7 or 8 on one team may fit in as a starter or get more playing time not only because of the number of skilled players in a program but different styles of play. Just don't know how KHSAA could apply the rules.

I agree with you on this, some may have been waiting their turn for PT and if this happened now they wasted their time. That being said I'm sure no team would turn down a player like Miller if he just happend to move into their area.

Williamsburg may be ranked a little too high, but I kind of like them and didn't know who else to put there.

I'm sure that North is at fault for many of their problems........... although South's success led to many of the best middle school players the last couple of years switch to South Laurel. This kind of thing happens all over the state and use to happen a lot at Corbin, especially for football, so it's not a knock on South.

 

All of Corbin's starters were at Corbin when they started playing school basketball in the 6th grade, but a couple went to private schools prior to that. As far as the subs who played any quality minutes, Cashen moved to Corbin at the start of the 7th grade and Hendrickson moved this past summer from E-town. I'm not sure about Barbourville.

Lynn Camp returns three starters. They graduated Knuckles, Abner, and Brock. They will return a solid core of players including, Sizemore, Mitchell, Mobley, Bargo, Wagner, that's 5 starters taller than 6'1.

 

I can't see South continuing to win. The are losing 4 important players again this year. It's going to be tough for Coach Wright to continue replacing important players with high quality. He did this year, but Jones, Bortnam, Price, Duncum are going to be tough to replace.

South's, best Middle School, players are all South, kids. North, has not had any players defect to South, in middle school. Please name one if you know of one.

 

South, has had a few Dad's and Grand parents, coaching AAU basketball, Little league football and travel baseball. Thats what has made the different in South Middle School program, not transfers from North. I will tel you this North's Middle School has several transfers in their program. South 7th grade is the hard work of the Kid's, Dad's and Grand Parent's.
