I know very little about Clark Stepp but wish him the best. However, I would like to give one caveat to anyone who is thinking about playing for Gillispie: you had better have the right mindset and work ethic or it will be a bad mix. This goes for five-star recruits as well as walk-ons (e.g., Legion (maybe Hopson?) and Mills.

I have watched Stepp play several times over the last few years. He is a very talented player, however that talent has been showcased agianst mainly 14th region opposition. He will be a great asset to any college team. However I dont feel like he would make great contributions to a major D-1 school, other than to be on the practice team.

Clark doesnt have what it takes to play in the SEC. But there has been many of players to play in the 14th and 15th region that could have. Ill give you a name, Brian Neace. He played for PCC about 3 or 4 years ago.

You guys are the same guys that most likely said Neltner, Draud, Knowles, Pelphrey,Feldhaus, Farmer couldn't play D-1 or in the SEC. I am sure I am missing several others that were not among your D-1 picks that went on to play and contribute to D-1 teams. It amazes me that we seem to know what void Pearl, Billy G, Donavan, and the rest of the D-1 coaches in the country are needing to fill. Whitaker could play the point for several D-1 schools in 2 years and there are even some in the SEC that could use him. And if you think they have to be seniors to be looked at you should apply for the UK job because evidently Billy Clyde should n't be looking at younger kids.

I beg to differ-Garrison Collins JBS 6'9 kid will definitely play at the next level. He has improved greatly over the year and will continue to improve his senior year. IMO, this kid hasn't reached his full potential yet. Both Cox and Clint Stepp will definitely get offers as well. Who cares if it's a NAIA school or a major D1 school-these kids will be getting their college paid for. Let's congratulate them instead of degrading...

 

I don't think Collins will play at the next level, he may have the skills necessary but I don't think he will want to. I talked to him at a college fair in Lexington and he never mentioned any smaller colleges where he could play. He was mainly looking at larger schools where he could further his education.

If any player wants to try-out for a walk on position, I commend this and say give it 100%. With that said, the SEC is like most major conferences and not every very good Kentucky High School player, can play there.

 

Playing the PG role, is extremely demanding and must include passing, shooting, decision making and defending. Often times, against players that are the premier athletes.

Disagree! Josh Whitaker-Hazard can play in the SEC. Maybe not every school but there are some good fits for him and his abilities in the SEC. It as amazing to me that every year the so called basketball gurus say who can and can't play in certain areas but every year there is a kid or two that graduates from a D-1 school after playing and contributing to those D-1 schools.

This would be an incredible mistake, he isn't even the best mountain player in the state. That title belongs to Slone.

 

If Stepp played in the 11th or 7th Region, his numbers would be nowhere near what they are, nor would he have played until his Junior year possibly.

Josh maybe has the potential to be a better ALL around player than his brother, but not quiet there at this point. If we are talking ALL around then his brother would not only score on you but lock you down on defense as well. Josh has a good upside but on the defensive end, right now, his brother was better. Could he get there, yes, but not quite there yet. :thumb:

 

This spread is about Stepp possibly becoming a Wildcat, and I still say that he will opt for a lower level college with the opportunity to play.

Ive seen him play alot, before he got to Hazard and now. Heck, I live in the same county.

Also heard the Air Force Academy may be looking at Clark.

I have seen both play several times and they are nice players, but not D-1 material. Sloane would be a nice player for Morehead or EKU and Stepp at a Cumberland, Union, or Pikeville.

 

Slone has more athletic ability than Stepp and thus the higher level.
