I'm proud of the way Doug Noble has improved the Owls as the season has progressed, too.

Owsley became more competitive every game. For instance, Wolfe had beaten Owsley by around 10 twice in invitational tournaments this season, but were lucky to survive the Owls in Campton two weeks ago. The Owls led nearly the entire game, before losing by 2. The Owls trailed Letcher Central by just 3 points with a few minutes left in the game at Whitesburg before having to resort to fouls and lost by 13. And they played Powell to the wire in Stanton not long ago after losing big to the Pirates at home earlier. They did hit a bump in the road at Buckhorn last weekend, but came back in the district to give the Engineers all they wanted, the same Estill team that had beated the Owls by over 20 points twice this season.

So, congratulations to Coach Noble, his staff, and players. This was his first season as a varsity coach, after years as a middle school coach, and he has shown me he has all the ingredients to be a great coach for the Owls. I'm glad we have him.:thumb:

I couldn't have said it better myself, Professor. The Owls have nothing to be ashamed of. Coach Noble, Coach Hensley and Coach Davidson along with the boys have worked hard this year, having many ups and downs and come along way. Even though I wish this game would have turned out different, I am extremely proud of the boys. They gave it their all and almost had an upset. Again, Congratulations to all the Owls staff and players and thanks for a great season. I am already looking forward to next year.

I agree that the Owls have made much overall improvements under coach Noble and his staff and the future does look more promising but the facts at the end of the season IMO do not justify a "great season". When "great" becomes winning 5 games a year and losing 21, ranking 4th in the seeded district and losing the 1st game in post season play there are some issues. I think the more operative word would have been an "impressive" final game IMO.

Okay. It was an "impressive" final game.

 

I think the gist of what most of us are trying to say is, the team showed great improvements as the season progressed. Yes, the team won only 5 games, but many of the teams that were blowing them out in the first half of the season were fortunate to survive with a narrow win in the second half of the season. And a good example was last night....Estill had their way with the Owls in both season games this year, but were stretched to the final horn to win the district tournament matchup.

Coach Noble made adjustments, lineup changes, etc, as the season advanced, and he almost pulled off a big one last night.

It was a very good game. I give it to the Owls that they fought hard and out played Estill they just didn't have enough at the end. But great games by Evans, Christopher and Triston (cluch shot at the end)
