Well there you ago. Like I have stated before I am not that up on gun law. I personally don't have any need to have a house full of weapons. But I do back the constitution and it says that we have the right to bear arms so unless it is changed then it should be that way. But on the other side I can see where some of this stuff can cause a problem. People are just angry and the need for violence is out of control in this country. We are over worked, over stressed, and over spent. WE don't trust anyone and we don't slow down enough to know our neighbor. So we keep a bunch of guns in the house just in case. Just in case what the Iraqi army comes up Maple Ave. and tries to take over American. I don't see that happening. Do we need all that firepower to kill animals that can be killed with way less? According to the pro gun people we do. IMO we don't

 

 

Much of it doesn't have to do with need either. As someone else said, do we need gass guzzling sports cars? Do we need massiv SUVs that get gas mileage only slightly better than a Model A?

 

Owning firearms for many of us is a hobby, a very enjoyable one I might add.

 

My interest in firearms come from my background with history, which trust me is extensive. I own 2 weapons that are of important historical value, one of which is semi-automatic. I would love to own more for that reason as well. Some of the weapons I would like to own are cost prohibitive with the Class 3 license (i.e. a BAR or Thompson). Alas I won't be able to afford those, however I don't see a problem with an M1 Garand(semi-automatic) and so on.

 

Most of the people who can afford a Class 3 lisence and the firearms associated with them aren't the types that you really need to worry about anyway.

It takes at least 10 years for a drug to be approved from start to finish. The cost that goes into research and trials and test on these drugs is staggering. I will have to find something that gives you a price. That is one of the reasons that it is so expensive to have these drugs. There are other factors that go along with it but that is with any billion dollar industry, just like the gun industry.

I'm sure they are regulated heavily, but I don't really consider prescription drugs as a product, as in the same light as guns.

I don't know how easy they are to get. I don't know if it is a good idea to send a bunch of people home with full assault weapons to keep just in case they are needed. I am not against semi-automatic weapons. I think for the most part they get a bad rap. There are laws on the books about guns that are just crazy. But there are modifications that can be done to semi-automatic weapons that make them much more dangerous.

 

Modifications like you are suggesting are allready illegal ! Lets say for the sake of comparison ,you have a full automatic M-16 with a 50 round clip that can be fired empty in 6 seconds, and an 870 pump loaded with 5 shells of #4 buck shot. At 40 yards which one is more deadly? The 870 with #4 buck shot gets my vote. 5 #4 buck shot would let you put 145-23 caliber balls in the air in less than 4 seconds.

What is they type we really don't need to worry about? I am glad that you have a great hobby in that. That is what makes us all different. My wife's family had an extensive gun collection with some very old guns but someone in the government has them now, but I won't go into that on here. If you want to know about that it would be a private conversation. I have said I am not that big on guns or all of that but it is in the constitution and that is what I back. You should be able to own them.

A .22 will kill a deer. I have killed deer by the way. I just don't get into hunting anymore. Opening weekend of gun season is the state cross country meet which is more important to me now. No a .22 won't kill a bear but my old boss has killed 3 with a bow. He has them in his office. It was a site to see. And I agree with the guns to prescription drugs being like apples to oranges.

I didn't see 9-11 coming either.

I just want to say, its not the power of the weapon, the amount of ammunition it holds, or the rate at which it is capable of firing them that you need to worry about! Its who owns them. And the people that are going to use them to harm others aren't going to buy them from dealers anyways. All laws and regulations do is make it more of a hassle for law abiding citizens!

This is a terrible argument. People that are pro-gun want NO REGULATIONS.

 

fast cars are regulated - emissions, safety & it may go 200 but you have SPEED LIMITS.

 

motorcycles are regulated as well - license, speed limits, helmets

 

This is not about need or not needed it is about regulations!! People that are pro-gun want very limited regulations/rules. The problem is that EVERYTHING IS REGULATED (food, environment, speed limit, cars, building codes, fire codes, taxes, etc etc etc)

 

You're right, this is a bad arguement. Owning a gun is a RIGHT, owning a vehicle is a PRIVLEDGE. If you think that our citizens owning guns isn't important and our military can always 100% protect us. Then for your sake I hope your right! As for me, if they come to take my guns, they better pack their lunch!
