Quarterback A averaged 9.09 yards per attempt, while Quarterback B averaged 6.91 yards, an important stat that says a lot about getting the ball down the field. Quarterback A had a career touchdown-interception ratio of 71 to 24, while Quarterback B was 56-37.

 

So solve the math problem with the answer to this question: Who's the better NFL prospect?

 

If you answered A, you have failed the test. At least according to most NFL analysts and scouts.

 

The correct answer for most is B.

 

Quarterback B is Boston College's Matt Ryan. Quarterback A is Louisville's Brian Brohm. Nearly every list leading into the April NFL Draft has Ryan ranked ahead of Brohm. The handful of team personnel and scouts I spoke to here at the NFL Scouting Combine agree.

 

"Oh, it's the Boston College kid," one AFC scout said. "I don't think it's close."

 

I disagree. Not only is it close, but I also think Brohm is the better NFL prospect. It's close, but my lean is to the three-year starter with 33 starts, compared to the two-year guy with 22.

I've heard a ton of "experts" say this is one of the worst QB drafts in a long time. They say Ryan will probably be the only 1st round QB! I still think somebody will jump at Brohm and get a good deal on him. A lot of them were talking about how their heart went out to Brohm for doing the right thing by staying in school.

Derrick Anderson is going to be the steal for somebody because he is going to cost a 1+3. If you think about it you are really only giving up your 3 for him because you got your guy (in Anderson) with your 1 pick. I haven't heard a single person interviewed who said Anderson wouldn't be the 1st QB taken.

Don't be shocked if the kid from Delaware jumps ahead of Brohm dropping him to the 3rd QB taken. There is a love affair with Ryan. The thinking is he has perfect size, good arm, GREAT leadership and didn't play with the talent somebody like Brhom played with. Right now Brian is hoping to be the 2nd QB taken but very well could end up #3.

Woodson I'm afraid has slipped a lot. I'm guessing he might be a 3rd rounder. I hate to see somebody like Brian miss out on money he would have had but in the end it all comes down to getting their shot. They are all going to get it and it's their job to go produce if they want that 2nd BIG contract. I'm proud of both of the KY born QB's!

I think this class for QBs is really bad. A D2 QB is being called the third best QB in the class!!!!! Last year was pretty bad too I thought, Russell and Quinn being the only ones who had a chance to be a NFL starter and actually do a decent job, unlike John Beck.

I'm going to go ahead and say that QB A faced better competition as a starter in college as well... the ACC has not been pretty since expansion.

I love all of these people saying how weak this QB class is. Fact is, this class almost mirrors every class that is not the class of '83....and for what it's worth, while Ryan is getting love it is because of the record of the team, that is all. Brian is a much better QB if you watch film, that's really all there is to it.

Come on RP, your definitely showing a little favoritism here to you boy Brohm. Your basically saying that NFL scouts and coaches have not watched film or anything on these guys. I mean if Brian is definitely the much better QB as you say if they watch the films, then you would think that they would have the same opinion as you.

Well he says if you watch film you will see that Brohm is the better QB. Well I know I not a NFL coach or scout, but I bet you that they did watch film on both Brohm and Ryan. So if that is true like he says, then you would think they would also see on film that Brohm is better. So saying that if you watch film you would see that is definitely being a homer. Since the NFL guys have watched film and well do not agree with that assessment.

 

With that said IMO I don't think really any of them will be great QB's in the NFL. I know I do think Brohm though has an A LOT better shot at being a NFL starter than Woodson though. I think Brohm will end up having a decent NFL career. I really don't think Woodson will be anything more than a career backup now.

I personally feel that this is a solid QB class. Sure they have things to work on, but with the parity in today's college game, how could we differentiate the QB's any differently. That said, none of us REALLY know what NFL scouts have seen or said, to this point. Just hearsay, and a bunch of reporters around the nation who have never played the game.

Well I dont know for sure, but I don't think you are an NFL scout are you? If you are then I am sorry, and I change my opinion. However I don't think you are, and I am willing to bet that NFL scouts and coaches probably have watched all kinds of films on both of them. Yet they do not have the same opinion as you. I mean guys who get paid to break down these guys, and watch films on them, have a completely different opinion than you.

 

With that said though, I hope you are right and Brohm ends up being better than him, and having a great NFL career. I know I love seeing Ky boys do well, and well I don't think the other Ky boy in Woodson will do much in the NFL. So I really am hoping Brohm does great, and that he proves that you are smarter than the NFL guys. :thumb:

What I was mainly saying is that neither you, nor I, nor the media, REALLY know what the NFL scouts have seen or want, or think. It's a poker game, just like Herm Edwards said. So anything these scouts are saying, they don't mind being repeated. Think about that.
