The 2nd Amendment - Where do they stand?

Featured Replies

I think you needed to define it for yourself. YOU CAN"T BUY ONE NOW WITHOUT A SPECIAL LICENSE THAT IS VERY EXPENSIVE AND VERY HARD TO COME BY.

Okay? I never claimed you could buy one now...What are you talking about, and why are you posting in all caps?

Also nothing wrong with banning automatic weapons either. Why should any citizen have an automatic weapon...legally that is?
I was referring to this. The caps were to make myself perfectly clear. I know you are a gun owner, I know you are a democrat, but I'm telling you that both Clinton and Obama are anti-gun and have been for a looooooooooong time.

The Clinton Gun Ban did not stop people from owning semi-automatic weapons. Essentially it stopped people from adding attachments and getting magazines with more than 10 rounds.

As of Sept. 13, 1994, the law prohibited assembling various semi-automatic firearms with two or more of their originally-standard external attachments, such as a variable-position stock or flash suppressor. For example, Springfield M1As, previously made with two attachments, are now made with only a flash suppressor.

Additionally, the ban prohibited a private citizen from possessing an ammunition magazine, manufactured after Sept. 13, 1994, that holds more than 10 rounds of ammunition.

While I don't agree with that ban, it's not like it stopped people from purchasing and owning guns.

That's fine, but I'm still not sure why you posted what you did. I never claimed that you could purchase an automatic weapon, I simply said there's nothing wrong with banning automatic weapons. No citizen needs an automatic weapon for anything legal. It's not necessary for hunting or self defense, a semi automatic weapon is sufficient for both of those.

It wasn't a ban of semi-automatic weapons, was it?

Read up so you know what they are going to ban.

That ban was a purely cosmetic ban on Ar and AK type "assault" rifles.

Those will be gone if Hitlery or Hussein become President.

What's wrong with a gun collector buying them?

Going to ban? That law expired in 04 didn't it, and was not renewed?

Also, anyone can put pretty much anything on Wikipedia. It's not the most credible source. :D

Anyways according to the link, the ban prohibits:

Semi-automatic rifles able to accept detachable magazines and two or more of the following:

* Large capacity ammunition magazines

* Folding or telescoping stock

* Conspicuous pistol grip

* Bayonet mount

* Flash suppressor, or threaded barrel designed to accommodate one

* Grenade launcher (more precisely, a muzzle device which enables the launching or firing of rifle grenades)

Semi-automatic pistols with detachable magazines and two or more of the following:

* Magazine that attaches outside the pistol grip

* Threaded barrel to attach barrel extender, flash suppressor, handgrip, or silencer

* Barrel shroud that can be used as a hand-hold

* Unloaded weight of 50 oz (1.4 kg) or more

* A semi-automatic version of an automatic firearm

Semi-automatic shotguns with two or more of the following:

* Folding or telescoping stock

* Pistol grip

* Fixed capacity of more than 5 rounds

* Detachable magazine

So there was no ban on actual standard semi-automatic weapons. Just ones with grenade launchers, bayonets, silencers, etc. I don't agree with all of the restrictions of attachments, but grenade launchers, bayonets and silencers shouldn't be legal. They're not necessary for anything legal.

What's wrong with a gun collector buying them?

So a collector should be allowed to own a functioning military tank if he/she desires?

Or how about a rocket launcher?

Those will be gone if Hitlery or Hussein become President.

I disagree. There will not be enough support to fully ban standard semi-automatic weapons. I guarantee that.

You can't guarantee anything, you're not in position to.
