February 23, 200818 yr Where does the Presidential Candidates stand on The Right TO Bear Arms? This is one issue I am really concerned about.
February 24, 200818 yr Obama believes in the Second Amendment but he also believes that local communities have the right to ban handgun possession. Go figure.
February 24, 200818 yr Barack Obama on Gun Control: Keep guns out of inner cities--but also problem of morality I believe in keeping guns out of our inner cities, and that our leaders must say so in the face of the gun manfuacturer's lobby. But I also believe that when a gangbanger shoots indiscriminately into a crowd because he feels someone disrespected him, we have a problem of morality. Not only do ew need to punish thatman for his crime, but we need to acknowledge that there's a hole in his heart, one that government programs alone may not be able to repair. Source: The Audacity of Hope, by Barack Obama, p.215 Oct 1, 2006 Ban semi-automatics, and more possession restrictions * Principles that Obama supports on gun issues:Ban the sale or transfer of all forms of semi-automatic weapons. * Increase state restrictions on the purchase and possession of firearms. * Require manufacturers to provide child-safety locks with firearms. February 24, 200818 yr Hillary Clinton on Gun Control: Keep guns away from people who shouldn’t have them We need to stand firm on behalf of sensible gun control legislation. We have to enact laws that will keep guns out of the hand of children and criminals and mentally unbalanced persons. Congress should have acted before our children started going back to school. I realize the NRA is a formidable political group; but I believe the American people are ready to come together as a nation and do whatever it takes to keep guns away from people who shouldn’t have them. Source: http://www.hillary2000.org, “Gun Safety” Sep 9, 2000 License and register all handgun sales Hillary Rodham Clinton offered her support for a legislative proposal to license hand guns. The legislation, sponsored by Sen. Charles Schumer, would require anyone who wants to purchase a gun to obtain a state-issued photo gun license. “I stand in support of this common sense legislation to license everyone who wishes to purchase a gun,” Clinton said. “I also believe that every new handgun sale or transfer should be registered in a national registry, such as Chuck is proposing.” Source: CNN.com Jun 2, 2000 [/i Find More Here.
February 24, 200818 yr John McCain on Gun Control: I know how to use guns; but I don't own one Q: Tell us about your gun collection, roughly how many you own, what your favorite make, model and caliber is, if any of them require a tax stamp? A: For a long time I used a lot of guns, including carrying a .45 as a pilot flying in combat over Vietnam. I know how to use guns. I don't own one now. Source: 2007 GOP YouTube debate in St. Petersburg, Florida Nov 28, 2007 Prosecute criminals, not citizens for gun ownership John McCain believes that the right of law abiding citizens to keep and bear arms is a fundamental, individual Constitutional right. We have a responsibility to ensure that criminals who violate the law are prosecuted to the fullest, rather than restricting the rights of law abiding citizens. Gun control is a proven failure in fighting crime. Law abiding citizens should not be asked to give up their rights because of criminals--criminals who ignore gun control laws anyway. February 24, 200818 yr Author I am a Democrat, but I will not be voting that way in the election. I believe in the 2nd Amendment, no ban on any guns(except machine guns) BUT I also believe mentally ill and illegal immigrants should have 0 guns.

I believe in the 2nd Amendment, no ban on any guns(except machine guns) BUT I also believe mentally ill and illegal immigrants should have 0 guns. If I'm not mistaken, Obama is not against letting individuals own guns. He has voted against automatic guns, but not against the right to own a hand gun. He is for strengthening what it takes to get a gun though, which I have no problem with. As for Hillary, she's not against guns either. She also mentions many times about how the mentally ill should not have guns. I'll most likely be voting for Obama in the primaries. If Hillary wins the Democratic nomination, I'll have some thinking to do.

There are NEVER any Dem's that are really pro-gun running for the Office of President any more. I've looked extensively into the backgrounds of all that are running and there is no way I could vote for Obama or Clinton.

I posted some good info above. Neither are for banning guns.
February 24, 200818 yr I see nothing wrong with the democrats position on guns. Nothing wrong with strengthening the laws we have and preventing criminals and the mentally ill from getting guns. Also nothing wrong with banning automatic weapons either. Why should any citizen have an automatic weapon...legally that is?
February 24, 200818 yr Neither Hillary or Barack are anti-guns either. I posted some good info above. Neither are for banning guns. Both received an "F" rating from the NRA. You need to look at their stance before they were running for president, they'll say anything now.

Nothing wrong with strengthening the laws we have and preventing criminals and the mentally ill from getting guns. Also nothing wrong with banning automatic weapons either. Why should any citizen have an automatic weapon...legally that is? Automatic weapons have been banned from importation or building since 1986, and to own one you must pay a $200 tax and give the right to the government to search your house at any time for illegal weapons. I read what you posted, both want to ban semi-automatic guns. You know what that encompasses? EVERYTHING but a revolver handgun and single shot/pump shotgun or bolt action rifle. My Glock, Colt Commander, and all my shotguns and rifles except one would be banned. Along with my AK and AR-15. Out of my 25-30 guns I would have exactly 7 left that they would not want to ban or confiscate..............

You can bank on the fact that if either on win, priority one will be banning guns.

Also nothing wrong with banning automatic weapons either. Why should any citizen have an automatic weapon...legally that is?Obama has variously supported bans on the manufacture, sale and possession of handguns; the extension of the Clinton gun ban; and most remarkably, in 1998 as a state senator, embraced the call to "ban the sale or transfer of all forms of semi-automatic weapons." Hillary has pushed vigorously for a harsher version of Bill Clinton's semi-auto ban, a hallmark of their "co-presidency" and a stark reminder of what 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue would have in store for you upon the return of this "political team." As for gun confiscation: Both leading Democratic candidates, Obama and Hillary, are supporters of firearm bans. For Clinton, that includes the confiscations that took place in New Orleans in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama are lying in saying they support the Second Amendment.
