February 19, 200818 yr Author I think you guys are doing a real disservice to a great broadcaster that got the nod. I loved Joe as much as the next guy, and instantly shed a few tears when I heard that he passed. But let's keep it in perspective and hope he gets the nod next time... I really do not get the reaction of some people. To say that Joe was the Reds and so on and so forth so he should get it is absurd. Niehaus has called 4,817 of the 4,899 games the Mariners have EVER played. Come on, it's ok to be bummed that Nuxy didn't get it THIS TIME, but let's get serious, there were clearly other very deserving candidates, including the man who won.

February 20, 200818 yr I'm sorry, but this sucks. :thumb::thumb: Absolutely LRCW, The Old Lefthander not getting in the hall is a travesty, complete joke. :madman:

February 20, 200818 yr I really do not get the reaction of some people. Then I guess that I am one of those, for te record I don't get your reaction/post. I am not saying the other guy was lousy/no good or whatever. I am saying Joe not getting in is a complete joke and slap in the face to all broadcasters everywhere. Not to mention all Reds fans :irked:, Bad day for Reds fans.....Howsman passes:cry: and the old lefthander gets shafted by the hall .
February 20, 200818 yr I read that the categories the candidates are judged upon were(don't quote me on these as I'm doing them from memory): 1. Community Work 2. Importance/Service to Team 3. Popularity 4. National Importance(Important games called) Hard to argue with Nuxy considering these criteria. I did hear a very valid point that while Joe meant the world to Cincinnati and was a great announcer for the town, his skills weren't quite as polished as Niehaus. Considering the panel, that could have played a significant role. I have no doubt that the ol lefty will get in next year, so fret not. Both men are very, very deserving.
February 20, 200818 yr Was this voted on? If so I wonder if it is ever released what the "order of finish" was, as in, was Joe next in line. I am very happy to hear that Joe can still win the award. I think the travesty would be if he couldn't get in, as in taken off the ballot. It seems like the guy they chose is good too, and was very important to baseball, especially that stat they somone threw out earlier in the thread about how he had called all but about 50 of the games the Mariners ever played in. Thats some serious stuff. If Joe were to never get in, that would be the real shame. It is terrible that he didn't this time, but I think he will eventually, if not next year....

February 20, 200818 yr Author C. Trent Rosecrans blog: I had a feeling today wasn't going to be a happy day for Cincinnati. It's a darn shame, but it's silly to disparage Dave Niehaus, the voice of the Mariners. Congrats to him, the voice of baseball in the Northwest. :thumb:
