Bottom line is that people caught up in points scored don't really want to think or know about points given up, rebounds, assists, turnovers, etc. And while there are many who use stats in a positive way, there are also many more who want to use the information against someone.

 

I don't agree, the few people I know that are keeping stats are doing it for their own reference and I have never known them to use their stats to bully a coach about playing time or for any other negative reason. So I don't agree that the majority are doing it for that reason.

On the other hand, I do know parents that complain to the coach about the lack of playing time their child gets and I think they should start keeping stats, becuase then they might realize why their child doesn't get the time they think they should. Maybe I'll keep stats for them, but no video because they will definately get the shot of the overturned bag of popcorn. LOL :lol:

Now, admittedly I did speak more about certain players than others. Some of the players had not gotten much playing time during the season for various reasons. I had one player who had been hurt most of the season and had played in only a had full of games.

 

I couldn't believe it when she presented the paper to me with the minutes on there. Her daughter was in the middle of the girls I had talked about, about 13 total players.

Hopefully it wasnt as long as a Highlands Football Banquet TubbyCat. I hear those go 8 hours+. Nobody can complain after those, in fact most parents are hoping the coach will stop talking about their son.

He got a little loud with them but never ever used any type of profanity. She took it before the school board and they would not hire him for the next year. People are plain nuts and some are a little psycho, if theres a difference.:ylsuper:

I keep stats, most games I bring along my lap top. I have in the past used paper also. I tracked girls and boys games. I do it mostly for posting on BGP but also my sons look at them. Sometime the Coaches ask for them if they need them. Yes some people will use them for different and selfish reasons.

 

I have been asked why do you keep stats and how can you enjoy the game. Well I enjoy keeping them. I may miss some of the game. Its funny how somepeople say its selfish and so on but then are on this site asking for game stats.

The story goes that she cracked the door at halftime and stuck her arm inside and held a small tape recorder and recorded the lecture. He lost his coaching position.

Great comment! What counts is the official stats, a parent might think their son/daughter has a steal or rebound,etc...., but when coaches go over the stats & the videos they keep track.

Could be for a variety of reasons. I know of a couple who does this when one or the other can't come to the game. Maybe they're practicing to be statisticians themselves. Maybe they don't feel like asking to see the score book.

 

Most likely they're collecting information to use when complaining about playing time:sssh:

I am a HUGE numbers guy no matter what it is. I love to look at stats and review them. It helps me as a coach. But, the only thing I want to players to look and care about is if our team scores more points than the other.

 

Of course, I understand kids still want to know what they did and brag about it to friends, but I try to bring a culture around my teams that as long as we win that's the only thing that matters.
