Harrison County 39 Highlands 38

Featured Replies

Harrison County jumped ahead 10-1 to start the game and led by 6 or 7 at the half. In the third period, Highlands turned up the heat defensively and cut the gap to one point. The Lady Birds took a two point lead with under three minutes to play, but Megan Bullock hit a huge three to regain the lead for the Fillies. Kacey Muntz hit a pair of clutch free throws to put the lead back to three with about 30 seconds to play. Highlands scored a basket to cut it to one, 39-38, then fouled with 14 seconds to play. Laura Kendall missed the front end for HC, but Highlands missed a couple of shots to win it. Really big win for the Fillies on Senior Night, especially heading into district tournament play.

Sounds like a good game. Congrats.

I was told the refs were really really really bad. One guy seemed to just want to give the Harrison Co coach his whistle, or as i was told the one ref looked like a puppet. If that is true i feel bad for the HHS girls.

Not true. If HHS would have hit their layups that would have won going away

A bit unexpected, a quality win for the Lady Breds against a good Highlands squad.

Anyone have some free throw numbers? I heard the Harrison had the majority of their points from the line. What kind of defenses were run in this game? Sounds like this would have been a game to see!

Harrison Co. 14 2pt. field goals , 1 three 8 - 18 free throws

Highlands 14 2pt. field goals , 1 three 7 - 14 free throws

Harrison played a soft 2/3 zone and Highlands pressed and traped the entire game

Thanks!!

Wow. congrats to Harrison co. Huge win!

Great win for Harrison. Mason County lost to this same Highlands team, and beat Harrison by about 20, so it sounds like Harrison played pretty good to win this one. Good win heading into the postseason.

Lets just say this. I was at the game and yes H/C played their hearts out and actually outhustled the Birds in the 1st half. The second half was all Highlands unless you were playing in Cynthiana. Oh yeah, did I forget to mention it was HC Senior night and also Coach Whitakers' last game ever at home as Fillies coach. Not that any of that stuff should matter when you reach this level of competition. But yes my friends the one ref did look like a puppet and yes when Whitaker complained he got what he wanted and when he didnt which wasnt often he would stare this guy down untill he got it. I dont want to sound like sour grapes here but I have a 7th grade daughter who also recongnized what was going on right in front of her own eyes and couldnt believe that this sort of thing goes on at this level of play. I did explain to my daughter that the only way HHS was going to win that one last night was if the Birds would have made their bunny baskets and put about 20 pts between them and HC. Unfortunately HHS didnt capitalize and HC kept fighting until the end eventually pulling off the upset. Congrats to the HC Seniors. And yes, it was a perfect end if you are a HC fan to a very suspious homey evening. :D

Districts are @ HC and I am pretty sure that Coach Whitaker won't quit before districts.

Highlands likes to play defense with their hands and it cost them.

Did I miss something here? Is it official that he is retiring?
