2008 Oldham County

Featured Replies

What does Oldham County need to do to improve in 2008? What do they need to keep doing to be successful? Remember, please be constructive.

I have heard from sources that Oldham Co has a lot of talent on the team, but doesnt utilize it the best ways. I know that people say that about other teams, but for Oldham it was as simple as passing instead of running. Or , passing it 4 times in a row 3 yards from the endzone.

So I guess to improve, they need to play to strenghts a little better in 2008 and not play a killer schedule!

Has anyone heard that their coach was let go?????

Coach ousted

By Mickey Patterson

Oldham County High School will have a new football coach next season.

Head football coach Lonnie Oldham’s contract will not be renewed, but he will keep his position as a special education teacher at OCHS.

“I am not recommending him to our superintendent to be our coach in 2008-09,” OCHS principal Dr. Dave Weedman said. “He is still a teacher at Oldham County. The coaching contract and teaching position are two different things.”

OCHS Athletic Director Matt Watkins said the dismissal is a personnel issue and school officials cannot comment any further.

Do I see a pattern taking place in Oldham County? Last year it was South's coach, this year it's Oldham County's coach. Somebody better keep their head down.

Don't forget that Jackson left Oldham for Pikeville only to return to the area when something opened up. Seems that something is amiss at Oldham?? Any insights?

School district and state rules were not followed. Nothing is amiss.:sssh:

What's implied here is NOT what happened.

I left for no negative reasons. The administration was very supportive of us, some facility improvements (like two full practice fields) had just been made, and some indoor facilities we'd lobbied for for years were around the corner. We also knew that when re-alignment happened that we'd go from Trinity or Highlands dominated districts to one where we'd likely be the dominant program.

I simply had football-playing family-members moving to a school with GREAT football tradition that happened to have a head coach opening at the same time.

Oldham Co. is still a great place to teach and coach...there would be very few better classroom/athletics situations out there. Coach Oldham's team had a nice run last year in the playoffs with some good kids coming back, new fieldhouse going up, great people to work for in the office, VERY supportive/hard-working parents, and a great youth league program.

Thanks for the insights Coach. Sounds like a good place for the right person.

You have to get in good with the Mayor to keep this from happening. Do you have any experience with that? That is why it is best to mind your business and keep to yourself. JMO

:argue: Wow Knute, where did that come from? Follow your advice when commenting in other topics. Isn't this why we have forums? To comment on topics we have an opinion on?
