When the game was over, the Franklin Co. student section threw shoes onto the floor. It was pretty sorry through and through. I blame the refs for their lack of control of the game and the FCHS administration for their lack of control of the student section. In my opinion after the first kid was thrown out by the refs, security should have increased, but the two rent-a-cops just leaned up against the wall on the other side of the gym.

 

I need to say that I don't think Montgomery Co. or Franklin Co. got more calls than the other, I just think that both teams were forced to try to one-up each other in the physical play because the refs wouldn't call anything and the most physical team was going to win.

 

Congrats to the Tribe for pulling this one out.

Does any one have the stats on free throws. That may give some insight into whether it was one-sided or not. And the difference wasn't because one team wasn't going to the hoop. Deron Hicks got hammerd every time he went to the basket and didn't shoot one. It was bad.

I was at the game, and I don't recall seeing any shoes on the floor. Not saying there weren't, but it must have been right in front of the student section and not visible from the other end. Certainly if there were, it must have been A shoe. No, that is not acceptable. By and large the student body is usually pretty laid back. I am pretty sure that a game like that would have resulted in a crowd control issue at some of the gyms I have seen.

The real concern to me is the fact that the #50 you all speak of was getting heckled by the Montgomerey Co. Coach most of the game. It is a shame when adults get into kid games. Maybe part of the blame for the game getting out of hand lays on the shoulders of the coach.

Rash did a great job on #22 Meyer, holding him to 2/18 shooting including 1/9 from the three.

I agree with you on this although #22 was 2/9 from 3, 3 for 19 overall with 8 points. In any event Rash did a great job. Meyer probably had the worst night of his career shooting, many were open shots but I'm sure the defense took its toll. It happens.

 

The two technicals on Franlkin Co's coach really didn't help their cause. One at the end of the first half after FC cut the lead to 5. This gave MC two free throws and the ball to start the second. MC quickly went up by 9 or 10 with this advantage starting the second. The second "T" and ejection occured later in the second as FC's coach did not lock his seat belt during some of the physical play.

 

With regard to the incident between FC's #50 ("Oak tree" Watkins) and MC's # 10. Let me describe it as I viewed it to put it in perspective. I did not see Watkins punch Stephens although there was a battle for a rebound that was pretty physical. Bodies started flying and big "Oak" #50 lost his balance and fell on top of #10. To really put what occured next in perspective one needs to know that FC's #50 is an offensive and defensive lineman on the football team. He weighs I'm guessing 280 plus. MC's Hull #10 is a point gaurd and probably weighs 135 lbs drippin wet. When Watkins was on top of Hull, I'm sure MC's hull thought he was gonna die. Hull #10 then executed a punch, grab and twist self defense move (I saw this demonstrated on the outdoor channel last weekend) that not only got Watkins off of him but had him doubled over for several minutes. I do not think what Watkins did was intentional and none of us can really say what we would do if we were in position that Hull was. I think he just reacted. After that Chalk's seat belt didn't hold and he got his second "T" and ejection.

 

With regard to FC's student section an appology goes out to the Montgomery Co. fans that perceived them to be totally inappropriate and out of control. The guy that got escorted out was not a student. I think FC is just glad they have a student section as their program is in its 5th year of trying to recover from its lowest point where the basketball team only had two wins. Can't disagree that a hand full of the students need some lessons in appropriateness.

 

From my perspective the officiating was not one sided for either team. With every thing that happened in this wild game, Franklin County did have chance to win but could not knock down open shots at the end.

 

The better team last night won and congratulations goes out to Montgomery Co. I hope these two teams continue this series and matchup next year in Mt. Sterling.

This was a wild game and I think both teams have benefited from the post season atmosphere. Although things did get a little out of hand this is the toughness it will take for the Indians to compete for the 10th region title and the Flyers to compete in the always tough 11th.

I will agree with much, but not all of Fanofthe11th's statement. Of course, the game is over, and move on... but the free throw disparity was huge, and it was not due to style of play. I would like to know the difference, but it had to be 25+ shots to
