February 7, 200818 yr I can't remember who complained about it earlier, but from what I've heard the 1978 NCAA Champions will be honored on Saturday before the UK-Alabama game.
February 7, 200818 yr 30th anniversary good year to remember them, I might bring in 48 and 58 and 98 teams do, any year with 8 in it seems to be good to us!
February 7, 200818 yr Author 30th anniversary good year to remember them, I might bring in 48 and 58 and 98 teams do, any year with 8 in it seems to be good to us! Can't see it happening in 2008.
February 7, 200818 yr Right around the Mesopotamians, right Actually the Romans had the best team money could buy that year.
February 7, 200818 yr Author Right around the Mesopotamians, right Yeah, when they said give me the rock, they literally meant give me the rock.
February 7, 200818 yr That was a great year to be a Wildcat Fan. That UK team was clearly the best team in '78 from start to finish. They only missed 2 weeks in the Regular Season polls as #1. It was a great team from that era that doesn't get as much recognition because they weren't flashy and they were the year prior to the big Magic-Bird showdown. What most forget is that KY edged out Michigan State in '78 when Magic was a frosh and did it by coming from behind. The Cats beat all 4 Final 4 teams that year: Arkansas, Duke and Notre Dame in the regular season. KY also beat NCAA teams St Johns and IU as well as a good UNLV squad. Hearing that they are going to be honored makes me want to pull out the '78 title game video and watch it again. That was Joe Hall's finest team and his finest hour as a coach when he benched the best players vs Florida State in the NCAA despite being down 7 at the half.

February 7, 200818 yr I'm sure you probably weren't saying the same thing back in 78 when it happened. I was. Right after the game was over and UK had won. Before that time, well .... Let's just say I started some rumors about Joe's family origins. :thumb:
February 7, 200818 yr Probably my favorite Championship team, especially because of Jack "Goose" Givens.

Was often said that team was the U.K. team that "did not get to enjoy the season".......They came in expected to be National Champions and everywhere they went that was all that was mentioned. They were told every day by anyone and everyone..."You WILL BE National Champions" ,...not "We hope that you win it". There is a difference. That 78' team had all the expectations/weight in the world put on them and they delivered. Definately one of my favorite U.K. teams of all time. "Goose", "King & Kong", "White Ligthin'" were just a couple of the nicknames (Givens, Robey & Phillips, Shidler) along with Macy the others that was one great basketball team........................ .
