63rd District draw

Featured Replies

Why dont we seed all districts and make sure no weak teams make the region.

Lets just make it easier than playing scheduled games to seed, since it isnt done in regionals or state, and automatically send the bigger schools to state and bypass the region. People say make the season worth something. I say they are, they are getting their team prepared for postseason. I would like to see the teams that are playing the best basketball now in regions in state. Not the teams that are predestined? to be there.

:confused:You really think that Raceland could have a "bad" draw this season. Russell and Greenup Co. should be tickled to death that one of those sorry teams will be in Morehead. You can say what you want but the draw has helped Raceland several times and it has hurt us several times. Seeding will do the same. Yes it would help the Rams this year, but what about next? In high school sports you never know when your down years come a good draw could put you in the region. That generally doesn't happen with seeding.

:thumb: Excellent post Blazer. That is basically what I had said or was trying to say earlier. I don't know about the "blame game" either:rolleyes:. I didn't read where anyone from Raceland was blaming anything. Maybe I missed it though.

I agree. It is too easy to "pad" your schedule to produce a winning record and be seeded into the district tourney. Earn you way. It's much more enjoyable when you win this way.

When you seed the only games that count toward your seeding are the district games. A team can pad their schedule and win 20 games & lose their district games and still be a 4 seed while a team that plays a tough schedule and only wins 10 games but wins all of their district games can be the #1 seed.

Honestly, no matter if you seed or draw you won't make everyone happy every year. If you seed and you are the #4 seed you won't be happy because you have to play the #1 seed. The #1 seed is happy because they are ALMOST assured they will play in the region. Most years a 2 vs 3 game is a wash because they are usually pretty evenly matched so that game is usually the best game of the tournament.

If you draw 1, 2, & 3 all want to draw #4 and they are all happy if they do. BUT, 1 & 2 are really upset when they draw each other as is the case this year. 3 & 4 are happy because they both feel they have a shot to make the region that they may not have had if you seeded. In the meantime, all the other potential district winners hope they get the winner of that 3 vs 4 matchup in the region assuming the #1 or #2 beat them in the district championship because they feel that will be a "cakewalk" to the second round.

As I said, you can't make everyone happy no matter what you decide. Parity has really hit our district where there is usually never a clearcut favorite anymore and Raceland (the smallest school in the district) has more than held their own over the last several years including being the "top dog" this year in boys and winning the girls district last year. Because the size difference between the member schools has really shrunk through the years I can't imagine any one team consistently dominating anymore or any one team being at the bottom each year and feeling that they won't ever have a chance to play in the region.

I would think we would always want to send the teams with the best chance of representing our district well in the region. Just showing up to be someone's first round "bunny" seems silly when you knew you had no chance of winning the region. I think it would be great to see an all 63rd final in the region. Seeding does more to help that possibilty every year and that is why it seems to be the best solution to most people.

I'm just glad we won't have to argue about this anymore!!

You wish spindoc. No blanks last week when they beat Greenup at their place. It may be a little tarnished but for sure not a blank.:creepy:

Barney playing on a neutral court , which won't be neutral if you had seen the Raceland turnout at Fairview, there were more rams than eagles there. Lewis doesn't match up with Raceland in any area, the only hope Lewis has is if Raceland gets in foul trouble but, that happened at Fairview an the Rams still won IMO

Raceland 75

Lewis Co 48

If Lewis shoots the 3 well as they have done some then Raceland could be in trouble. Again it's tourney time and anything could happen.

Raceland and Lewis County have nobody to blame but themselves. Reap what you sew.

A 3-20 record proves your statement 100%.:sssh:

Please explain??

How many players of the team you support saw valuable minutes last season (not counting minutes when the game was out of reach)?

When I mention this seasons record, some of the folks from your area I talked with seem to always refer to players not getting valuable PT last year. This is their statement... not mine. Therefore, my post.

I know they got the worst draw that they could have gotten. I don't want to hear people complaining about it though. Raceland and Lewis voted not to seed the district and now they have drawn each other even though they are clearly the top two teams in the district. Thats hilarious!

Personally I would love to see Lewis County and Russell go to the region. The whining and crying would be deafening. Not likely though.

BB, Raceland is a good team this year but they are not good enough that they don't have to worry about Lewis County or anybody else.

The ones that could play and contribute last year did so. I stated this on another thread but Russell only won by an average of 9 points per game last year. They only had 4 games they won by more than 20 & none by more than 30. The majority of their 27 wins were in the teens or single digits. You can't play substantial minutes unless you are a contributor when your team wins by 9 ppg.

Now, I do not have any kids or relatives playing so I can be completely objective about this year's talent. The second most talented basketball player on that team is a 7th grader and by the time he is a senior he may be more talented than Russell's top player this year. Not a knock on the other kids, they all work really hard but there just isn't a lot of basketball talent on that team. There are some good athletes but not great ball players. There is some potential good talent walking the halls over there that could help but for whatever reason they are not playing. That is their choice & I cannot answer that question with anything other than speculation. But honestly, even if this year's team would have played the entire varsity season together last year and this was their second year together their record would only be a few games better at best. Those of us who have been around awhile saw this season coming a few years back.

Basketball numbers at Russell just seem down for whatever reason. Even though the girls team continues to be successful there are only 8 girls playing who are high school age. The rest are middle schoolers.

A 3-20 record proves your statement 100%.:sssh:

On the contrary. That situation has absolutely nothing to do with seeding the district.

I know you can do better than that. :p

Yes we did.

No need to justify anything to an obvious attempt to change the subject to support an argument. None of that has anything to do with seeding the district, which Russell did vote to do, even though a down season was known to be comming. Being on the right side is enough.
