I agree, I was referring to another post that said Downing would have guarded Stull. I think he may have guarded Clark or even Rash, but not Stull.

Yep, Pawsat is getting valuable varsity experience and is doing EXTREMELY well! He's been in there in the close games and handled the pressure well. He's going to be a good player!

Did I say that? Rankings are for fun and good to look at.. that's about it. And if you knew anything about our region you would know that Montgomery playing Mason Co. again really doesn't have anything to do with Clark directly. Since they are in the same district they have to be on the opposite side of the bracket, so only possible way for both to play would be in the Championship game. It all depends on the draw which side of the bracket Mason is in... They could play them in the first round game, semifinals, or the championship.. it all just depends.. And you can't take anything for granted come region time. That's all I was trying to say.:thumb:

How in the world did Clark Co come up in this post? The game was Montgomery vs Mason.

For Mason to be effective, Miller NEEDS more than 7 shots in a 32 minute contest. Basically, that is less than 2 shots per quarter, plus the free throw attempts. IMO, Miller needs to be more vocal of commanding the ball in the post, and when he does get it, quit waiting for the double down on him, and be the MAN amongst boys that he is. AKA... ITS MILLER TIME!!!

Not sure I would want to see the Indians again if I was a Royal! You gotta think Coach G is keeping something is his bag for their next meeting....which by the way is the only "meeting" that matters!

47-29 Rebounding advantage, 25-6 on the offensive glass. Coach O'Hearn needs to take a Feldhaus practice to these boys. No excuse for getting beat on the boards like this, but still managed to pull out the win and without the glue of the team Keith Downing.

Yes this was a close game and Montgomery Co. is a good team. But I think some of you are underestimating the importance of Keith Downing to this Mason Co. team.

 

He is not a scorer (he doesn't have to be, they are loaded with offense) but he brings a defensive intensity to the Royals that no other player on their team does. He usually guards the other teams best guard the whole game, night in and night out. He is a great passer and brings the ball in almost every time he is on the floor. That may not sound like much but Mason Co. looked very confused in the Madison Central game inbounding the ball for at least a handful of plays. They at one point had to inbound the ball from under their own basket and Russ Middleton had to throw a pass to the other free throw line to Ryan Hamm to get the ball in. Plays and Confusion like that can mean the difference between a win and a loss in tight games.

 

Downing is also a key rebounder for the Royals. They really do miss him and are a better team with him on the floor. He will make a difference if these teams meet again this season.

 

And as for the injury, he should play Friday. But if he is not at least 85% don't be surprised if O'Hearn keeps him out against another 10th Region foe.

He went through warm-up lines tonight and looked ok.

Keith Downing is the straw that stirs the drink for Mason County. He is their best on ball defender, grabs alot of long rebounds, dives on the floor for loose balls,handles the ball against the press, and usually guards the other teams est perimeter player. He has definitely been missed in the last 2 contests, but the Royals find a way to win against 2 quality opponents on the road in hostile environments. IMO, the Royals are getting valuable minutes from Hamm, Tolle, Pawsat, and Treg Setty which in essence are making them a better team. Get well Keith!

What about the 3 Setty hit from the corner when it was about a 2 point game. It hit the rim and went up about 8 feet and fell in. It was pretty big and put Mason up 5.
