Holmes 65 Dixie 50

Featured Replies

Dixie took an early lead at 6-2 (Big Luke) had an injury the first play of the game, then got taped up and came back but was never a factor. Same old story, defense was all over the place. The bulldogs lead was 17 at the half and throughout the game they were up 20 to 25. Dixie made a very little run at the end of the game because Henley had the boys play the slow it up,"not the Holmes ball" and some massive foul calling by the officials. As I have said all year the defense was just unreal. Good game for the DAWGS!!!

A little side note, if I may. Sometimes when the Bulldogs are in the opponents face, moving so fast, hands all over the place. Personally I think the refs make calls that should not be a foul, it seems like they make the call without even seeing if it was all ball or not. They got to be thinking it's got to be a foul so I'll blow the whistle. I'm not complaining just have to see what I see as a sports fan, not as a Bulldog fan.

Good job Bulldogs! Many were pointing to this game as one they could slip up in.

The Dawgs have two possible tough ones coming in Highlands on the road and Boone at home. If they win these two barring a major slip up they should run the table in the Ninth. Here's my question. I've always considered the Ninth as one of those regions you just can't go undefeated in. With that being said just really how good is this years Dawgs and when was the last time a team from the Ninth region went undefeated in their region for the entire year?

Covington Catholic in 2003-04 was 16-0 in the region according to the Riherd's scoreboard

Had a chance to see the Dawgs for the second time this year and came away impressed. Dixie could never get in a rhythm offensively as the Bulldogs full court trap man to man defense led to many easy points for them including a steal and dunk by Todd Humphrey and then a hard two hand throw down by sophomore Elijah Pittman.

One thing I was impressed with was how deep and good Holmes bench is. Henderson i believe finished with 5 points but sat out almost the whole first half along with other leading scorer Braeon Avery. Terrence Clark (#41 i believe) also had a very nice game down low and did an excellent job on Mace when he was in.

After seeing Mace for the first time tonight, I wasn't impressed at all. For a kid being 6'8 I'd expect him to go to the rim a little more. He fades away on the turn around a lot and struggled mightily from the line as well, going 1 for 6 I believe.

All in all a nice win for the Bulldogs leading up to their showdown with the Fort Thomas school.

Dixie was still without three of their starters!! Nobody has mentioned that. One of the best shooting Holmes teams that I have seen in a while. It will be interesting to see these teams matchup again in the regional tourney.

When does Holmes play Highlands?

Thursday, 7:30 @ Highlands.

Carter, Lawson, and Mace all started, as they have all season. So how is Dixie missing three starters?

If the red Colonels are allowed to start six guys, I predict they'll cause matchup problems down the stretch.

Not a very impressive performance from Henderson. For someone as athletic as he is, he sure was a non-factor in the game.

Anyone who knows Arrez knows he is one of the most unselfish players you'll every meet. His other teammates were hot so he kept feeding them the ball. (Clark, R. Johnson, Pittman)

Henderson is more of a defense first, score second type of player. When Carter of Dixie scored 6 straight points for Dixie, Henderson switched to guarding him and he didnt score the rest of the game. IMO thats being a factor in the game...knowing whoever he's guarding isn't going to score often.

Just because he didnt dunk or put on an offensive clinic doesn't mean he was a non factor. His defense is one of the biggest obstacles for opponents to overcome in any Holmes game.

BTW he only shot 3 times and finished with either 5 or 7 points and that was in limited action as he, along with Braeon Avery only played about a quarter and a half.

Why did they both play so few minutes?

When Carter scored a few, the game was already over, so it wasn't like Henderson came in with a save.

Not too sure why they both played so few minutes. He took them out midway through the first quarter and they didnt return until the start of the 3rd quarter. Then throughout the third and fourth quarter they were on the bench the majority of the time, as was Clark.

I guess Henley just felt they weren't needed so he was giving them rest. The bench had built a 25 point lead, so really there was no point of them being out there.
