I believe the only starter they didn't play with last night was Kendall, which was a big loss, he is their go to player, with that said, Holmes wins this game with him on the floor.

Something has to give when Kendall (their best player), Ballard, and Pompilio all come back. After Dixie's four seniors, that started last night, they were basically playing their JV team. Look for the Colonels to make a run in the tourney when everybody is back.

While you can argue that not having those players hurt Dixie, something to think about also is that Holmes played the majority of the game without Henderson, J. Johnson and Avery. When Dixie got down by 25, it was with 3 Holmes starters being on the bench for more than a quarter.

 

With or without those Dixie players, Holmes still win this game.

Anyone who knows Arrez knows he is one of the most unselfish players you'll every meet. His other teammates were hot so he kept feeding them the ball. (Clark, R. Johnson, Pittman)

 

Henderson is more of a defense first, score second type of player. When Carter of Dixie scored 6 straight points for Dixie, Henderson switched to guarding him and he didnt score the rest of the game. IMO thats being a factor in the game...knowing whoever he's guarding isn't going to score often.

 

Just because he didnt dunk or put on an offensive clinic doesn't mean he was a non factor. His defense is one of the biggest obstacles for opponents to overcome in any Holmes game.

 

BTW he only shot 3 times and finished with either 5 or 7 points and that was in limited action as he, along with Braeon Avery only played about a quarter and a half.

 

Trust Arrez can score any time, have to watch all games:thumb:

A little side note, if I may. Sometimes when the Bulldogs are in the opponents face, moving so fast, hands all over the place. Personally I think the refs make calls that should not be a foul, it seems like they make the call without even seeing if it was all ball or not. They got to be thinking it's got to be a foul so I'll blow the whistle. I'm not complaining just have to see what I see as a sports fan, not as a Bulldog fan.

 

I think the oficiating is not as bad as you have made it out to be. Not great, but not that bad.

With the physical defense that Holmes plays with their quickness, they probably don't get called for as many as they possibly could...the old adage "can't call everything".

Too much bellyaching regarding who didn't play and who didn't.

I have seen Dixie play a couple of times and I think they are better without Mace. He is not the most nimble of players and last night, the injury was a non-factor because he could chase the Holmes players around the court and pace was not to his liking.

Dixie is a decent team, but I highly doubt Kendall makes much of a difference.

This was the first time I saw Holmes play this year, and I was impressed. They are athletic, quick, and deep. They started the game out in just a harassment press, but at the end of the 1st qtr., beginning of the 2nd qtr. they racheted up the intensity of thier press and it was devasting. Dixie never recovered and the game in essence was over, if Holmes wanted they could have won by 25 points.

 

I will put Holmes up against anybody in the state, I would love to see a team try to play them in an up tempo 94 ft. game, Holmes would run and out athlete them out of the gym!

Yeah, you are right, you are always better without a 6-8 kid who can score in the low post, rebound, and block some shots.

 

I swear their must be a bunch of 5-8 guys on this site that can't dribble or pass, but think they could be good if they were a foot taller. Dixie had 16 turnovers at halftime. Many, many of them were in the backcourt. Almost all were committed by guards. But, I'd post about the big kid. :banana:

When Mace was in there he was virtually a non factor. No blocked shots, maybe 2 rebounds and while 2 of his points were on a dunk, the other two were at the line. He was 2-8 from the line. He missed more shots than points scored. Also there was no way he was going to be able to keep up with the uptempo pace of Holmes which is why he sat midway through the third quarter and didnt return. He just couldn't keep up and a smaller, (6'4)Terrence Clark frustrated Mace the whole time he was in. Yea he got hurt but that was in he opening minutes of the game. If he is ok to play 2 more quarters, well the injury must have not been that serious.

When Arrez came back in the game, Holmes was up 20 points, so why would he need to score? Dixie pulled within 14 and Arrez had 5 straight points to give the Dawgs more cushion.

Did you even read my post? Obviously not, as we have another post knocking the big kid.

 

Dixie didn't lose this game with their frontcourt, it was lost by their backcourt, period. The backcourt players had 16 turnovers in 16 minutes in the first half, and it could have been more. Dixie got bailed out of jail for free with some tough calls against Holmes on would be turnovers.
