De'Sarae was 11-for-16 on Monday from the field, and 2-of-2 from the line for her 24 points. Also, 6 rebounds, 2 blocks and 8 steals.

I read a comment in Thursday's Ledger Independent comment line about Mason Co. being 30 points up and still playing their seniors. The caller was worried about MC possibly having a starter injured while playing when they were so far ahead and didn't need to be playing. Mason did put the bench in, with enough time left to foul a St. Pat player with enough force to cause a season ending injury for the SP player. Brooke Mosler, a freshman off the bench, and high scorer in that game for St. Pat, has a broken hand from what I have been told.

So are you saying the comment in the paper is not one of truth? Sorry to hear this about Mosler, she led the Lady Saints in scoring. Things happen in any sport where there is contact and its unfortunate.

The Mason County girls team has always been like that. They leave their starters in until about a minute to go in the game, even in a blowout, and not enough time for their bench to really gain experience. It's been like this for as long as I can remember. An example is when Megan Reese got hurt her sophomore year. She was left in the game late in the 3rd quarter with a 30+ lead (maybe even 40) and she gets hurt. This injury put her out all of one year, and then she was more susceptible to injury on her right leg the next year, and sure enough she tears that one too. Hopefully Mason County won't have to learn from this mistake twice, but their chances of it are greater if they decide to leave their starters/seniors in there late in the game. It's like they are trying to say "hey, look how good we are, we can beat someone by X amount of points," but most people know how good they are...I don't know, I just don't get it.

Mason did sub and our subs are really young (8th/Freshman). Mosler got hurt when we had our subs in. One of our young players fouled here pretty hard but not dirty. If we still had our starters in, this type of foul would not have happened. Also, when we put in our second five maybe St. Pat should have put in their second five instead of having in their leading scorer. They pressed our second five and went on like a 10-0 run at the end of the game to cut the margin. Should their starters press our second five? I have been around basketball and coaches for a long time and more than one has told me that they will not sub until the losing team gives in and subs first. Just an ego thing I guess. What is wrong or what is right??????

Chicken or the egg question. I know that on the boys side, folks always said that when BB had his run at Pendleton County, that was his philosophy.

I think whenever you are up in a game and you put your subs you should expect that the losing team is going to try to capitalize on that. You really can't expect a team to just roll over and play dead because they are losing. I don't think you can blame a team for trying cut into their opponents lead. And if they cut into the lead to the point that they are a threat, then the coach of the winning team can always put their starters back in.

I don't disagree with you above statements until you get to your last sentence. You are not guaranteed to gain your momentum back by putting your starters back in when the opposition has got back into the ballgame.

Mosler(also a freshman) was the leading scorer for that game. I don't think she started, so that would make her of the "second five". Just clearing that up.

Many people think that just because the winning team's subs come in, the losing team shouldn't give up, they should take it as an opportunity to work on things.

I didn't say she that she was. Just explaining that she was not a senior starter left in the game against 8th graders & freshmen.
