Gillispe Doesn't Believe In Fatigue?

Featured Replies

Did I read that correctly in the Lexington Herald Leader where he stated that fatigue is all in the mind? Does he run along with the players when he is running them to death at practice? No, he just has his personal driver get the cooler ready for the trip home. :jump:

Say what you want to but he has this UK team believing it!

Well, at least he has a designated driver. :thumb:

Since he brought up having a cooler for the ride home, I've always wondered how it was ok for a Limo to open alcoholic beverages. Probably should have asked this in a different thread but oh well.

Because the passengers/alcohol are physically separated from the driver? Just a guess.

Most of you do not realize how lazy these players were when BCG took over. Randolph Morris would probably still be waiting for playing time with the practice habits he had.

I just don't understand the big deal with all of this everyone in the country runs, granted some more than others but they still run. No one ever said college basketball or any college sport was goning to be easy otherwise everyone would be playing it takes tough (physically/mentally) people to play these games. High school is over, most of these guys probably just had to show up and their teams won in High school. Now they're playing some the toughest competition in the country.

2. NBA players and their coaches talk about cutting back minutes during the season to eliminate fatigue. It's hard to believe that college players are as well conditioned as NBA players. With Patterson, Bradley, and Crawford continuing to log 40, 42, 44, or even 50 minutes it has to have some effect.

I agree NBA players have to be rested throughout the regular season to be effective in the playoffs. But the NBA also plays 40-50 more games in the regular season than college b-ball.

At the beggining of the season a lot of people were very hard on BCG about practicing before games. Last week I was watching "Jim Rome is Burning" and he does a spot were he has a on site correspondent, this episode it was DJ Augustine (PG at Texas). And the interview was before a game the part that stuck out to me was 2 hours before gametime he and one of his teammates playing 1 on 1 full speed, which he said they did before every game. My point is we don't need to be so hard BCG and his practicing habits because most of them aren't that inivative, most people in the country have the same or close to the same philosiphies.

Big difference here, Billy G is 47 years old and an alleged drunk. The players are in the prime of their youth. Fatigue should not be an excuse, unless of course you end up playing 3 games in a row or something.

Come on hoopboy...nobody does that.

You get to a point where you get through it mentally.

Last year I think it was ESPN did a documentary on TN and Pearl and he was bragging on his team puking at every practice. Pitino when he got to UK killed the players every practice and how many team turmoils did he have. Why? The players feared him. LEt BCG coach. Adolph Rupp would have a 5-7 man rotation and players played all 40 minutes at times. This was before a 2 and a half minute break every 4 minutes of gametime. A player especially a guard should be able to play 40 minutes a game in todays game with no trouble if they work hard in practice and are well conditioned.

In the conference tournament you can play 4 games in 4 days.

If fatigue isn't a factor, then why do teams like Tennessee play 10 players? No one plays more than 30 minutes per game and they try to pressure you full court for 40 minutes. I think there are games in which most players could play 40 minutes if neither team forces the tempo much and neither team presses. What if in the conference tournament, Kentucky plays Tennessee, Arkansas, Florida, and a 4th game in 4 days and UK's guards play 40 minutes every game? There wouldn't be ANY effect?
