I want to say Jeff?? Norman. He was an assistant at Rowan when Doug Preston was there, his son was the qb. He went with Preston to Western in Louisville and then came back. I think he has been rumored to go to Prestonsburg to be an assistant.

Any word on who has applied for the job yet?

It is not that these people aren't supporting the football program. It is more about the lack of resources needed to take a program to the next level.

 

I'm not sure how much $$ it would take or where it would come from. They need to start by moving or replacing the football stadium and team room IMO. When prospective coaches are interviewed, most want to see the facilities. The current setup is embarrassing. But, this situation is where a good, energetic coach who wishes to be a part of building something they can be proud of can help make that happen. If it remains the same, I'm afraid the job will attract only those looking for a start to a career and moving on. It's up to the community and school to change it. Build something you can all be proud of.

What kind of facilities and stuff are offered. I have only been to more about 4 or 5 times in my life. I actually like the way there bleachers and field is set up. Now the field condition is another story.

And I think you're the one that needs to lead the charge.

The first thing to understand is that we can lead a charge, etc. and I do agree with that. However, the decision making to actually putting these orders into progress resides with the Morgan Co. Bd. of Education and the Morgan County Facilities planning commission.

 

Just for the record, and to shed FACTUAL light on this facility subject. I have before me at this moment a copy of the Morgan Co. School District Facility Plan. KBE Approval Date June 2007

 

Here are the things that have to happen to put it in motion:

1) Meet the requirements of the elementary schools construction. A 350 pupil capacity consolidating Wrigley and West Liberty and construction of the new school...

2) Major renovations/additions of educational facilities at the High School, now the good part is this: Land is being targeted and construction of a new school will happen very soon, and within the boundaries of the the high school improvements are: 5,000 square foot locker and weight room for football

 

In section 5. Here are two things that should make a future coach somewhat happy that they will have a hand in and part of the process...

 

I. Construction of a Football Field House ($600,000)

II. Construct Football Stadium Bleachers for at least 1,500 seat, Pressbox, Restrooms, and concession buidling. ($750,000)

 

This document is approved by the KDE and Division of Facilities Management.

 

Of course, in order to make these things happen is to have the Money in hand...either through "bonding" or private donations, other monies appropriated.

 

When will this happen? As soon as funds are available (the quickest way would be to have money accumulated and set aside for these projects by itself and where it doesn't have to be used for any other area, I presume)

 

But at least, it's documented and this can be made available to those interested parties.

 

We don't have the luxury of a nice large booming coal company locally that helps fund like at other nice places in EKY. There is plenty of community support, but when talking about big bucks....it's up to other sources and not just one person to "lead the charge";)

 

But it will happen...one of these days!

Any news in West Liberty?

There is some news. While Morgan County will still be accepting applications I would imagine over the next 7-10 days, within this time, the existing applicants will be screened and then interviews will be set up. Maybe 7-8 interviews coming up in the next couple of weeks.

I am sure Morgan will pick a very hard working,experienced, and most of all a good role model for the athletes and people of west liberty.

The administration at Morgan has been there a LONG time. They have been notorious for not helping the coaches do the things that need to be done to be successfull. People of Morgan Co. have tolerated this. If you are to see a sustained program, it must change.

 

I totally agree that to sustain a decent program a change from the status quo must be initiated & really pressed for. If Morgan Co. can fund & support a good basketball program, there is no valid reason why they can't do the same for the football program.
