Time spent on bashing last years staff and someone that truly cares about the kids isn't going to continue moving things in the right direction. Focus needs to be put into improvements in the program from the top down.

I feel that if a school hires a coach late in the game...(Which February is not late), they should bend over backwards to help him organize the program and get it going in the right direction. I wasn't hired until mid July at East Ridge and my administration was super with the transition.

Coach I was hired in mid July myself. It is a rough way to start but you become a better coach for it.

Every coaching situation makes you a better coach, if you truly want to become a better coach. A lot of coaches like to make excuses, blame others ie.. administration, school, facilities, but the coach knows what they have when they take the job.

LOL I think that its the administration of the school that makes excuses for not being successfull, especally those who change coaches every year or 2. People have got to understand that the administration of the school sets the tone on whether they are successfull or not. With that being said, every once in a great while there will be a good run of talent that will come along and there will be a little success for a year or 2. That is not building a program.

It is the administration to give the head coach they hire what he needs to be successful. He may have to wait to prove his program is worthy such as Morgan, but without proper equipment, facilities, and support most teams will be lucky and happy to just field a team. That is what I suspect from Morgan County and the administration - support when winning, and enjoy playing when losing.

What part of the administration are we talking about? It's easy and convenient to lump them all together but, surely everyone is not against the football program. Who is it that is NOT offering their support? School Board, Supt., Principal, AD,? And why?

I know Commercial Bank does just about anything for all of the athletic teams, Donnie McKenzie is the heart and soul of the football program, and we are talking about a dedicated principal, athletic director and board of education - superintendent who will go above and beyond to make the necessary upgrades in facilities and pay for coaches to continue to have and maintain success.

Too many of today's young coaches have an "I want it now " mentality. Some are lucky enough to walk into established programs. But, not many. Wins will do wonders for support, and that's happened a few times. But, with Morgan Co. nobody's stuck around long enough make a committment to improve the program. They've used the Raiders as stepping stone to other jobs. Maybe the task is just too overwhelming for head coaches.

Donnie McKenzie is one of the best persons you could be fortunate to know. He does more than any two people should. Commercial Bank has done a lot for Morgan County athletics and does a great by the football program.

I think administrators need to wake up and realize that good coaches are not going to stay at bad places. If they want the commitment then they need to be committed as well. This day and age young coaches stay informed and communicate to see where the good places are and are not.

This is 2008 and not 1958 where most coaches go to college and then come back to their hometown or a nearby town to coach and stay. More jobs are opening and attractive. Your quote was put very well, either put up or finds mediocrity help for a couple of year rather a long term coach to build a program.
