Comanche Moon

Featured Replies

I know there are a few Lonesome Dove fans on BGP, anyone been watching Comanche Moon on CBS?

Yes and Read the book love Lonesome Dove .

I have liked it so far. I have read all four books in the series and they all were great. My only disappointment is how they haven't really shown how tight Gus and Call were. In the novels you gain more insight into those two. Of course when you adapt a large work into a movie things must be sacrificed. I think the actors are good. Steve Zahn looks like he spent alot of time watching Duvall play Gus. Val Kilmer is dead on as Captain Scull. I'm looking forward to tonight's conclusion.

I hope they replay it. I watched the first night but last night I missed it.

I didn't know there were 4 books. Where does Commanche Moon fall in the series? I assume the original Lonsome Dove is the last.

I watched it and thought it was pretty good

OK...I'll be honest...I have felt it wasn't so good. I really like Val Kilmer's performance, but I have been really disappointed in Steven Zahn's performance. The storyline is obviously great, but Zahn's performance has struck me as campy and I haven't been able to get past that.

Here is a quick look at the four books.

Dead Man's Walk: The first book chronologically, the third actually written. In it we meet Gus & Call and go with them on their first experiences as Texas Rangers.

Comanche Moon: The second book chronologically, the fourth written. Covers the years between Dead Man's Walk and Lonesome Dove.

Lonesome Dove: The third book chronologically, the first written. Covers the cattle drive to Montana.

Streets of Laredo:The fourth book chronologically, the second written. Covers Call after Lonesome Dove and chronicles his aging and final hunt for a murderous Mexican bandit.

If you liked Lonesome Dove, then I recommend reading the others. I loved them all. I also recommend a series by McMurtry called the Berrybender Narratives. It has four books as well.

We have the books and the books on tape and the movies . Love his writings.

I thought this thread might draw the Captain out of hiding, I am very impressed with Zahn's work, I mean of course I'd rather see Duvall anyday, but he has done a fantastic job at capturing Gus, I'm pretty impressed, only negative is it has to end, tonight.

I have watched all of the episodes, I feel like they are very interesting. My next endevour is to read the books.

I love this show and I loved Lonesome Dove. I had to tape last night's show though because of the UK game. I may have to read those books.
